Are they really mandatory or not at all?
Don’t worry I’ve been using my pet but I am asking is it that mandatory in instanced content or not at all.
Hard to RP as an Orcish Pimp without all the haram of pets.

Yeah, they are pretty mandatory for demo. Not sure about the other specs because I have not played them in years.
Off topic but I am still salty they did not make Dark Apotheosis a warlock toy.
Sometimes mine will do a sacrifice on one but usually don’t have to unless it come down to it.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a Warlock not use their demons.
You can go without them if you spec into Sacrifice on Affliction / Destro, but that’s only really useful in PvP to counter someone killing your pet. You also get a bit of extra health from Sacrifice if you spec into Soul Link, but it’s very little and only there to “make up” for the mitigation you lose.
In PvE it’s Summoner’s Embrace all the way. 3% damage buff to everything plus free pet damage is far superior to random bits of shadow damage that account for ~3% of your overall.
But if you don’t care about meta it’s whatever, just do what you like.

Only mandatory for Demo. Aff and Destro can spec into Sacrifice I think. Not sure I don’t play Aff or Destro because I don’t find them fun.
I always use my pet. In instances I will use the imp but on special occasions I might use the felhunter.

For Demo, yes. Unfortunately, Felguard is THE primary pet for Demo Locks while the other pets we can summon are situational, but, I honestly don’t see another reason why to use anything other than the Felguard. I did make a post about it would be a nice addition for Demo Locks to be able to swap / interchange Pet abilities for Demo locks to have more use of the remaining pets instead of having the Felguard as the “primary” summoned pet for majority of content. I would love to use my Voidwalker or Felhunter as the likes of my Felguard but they really don’t. Sadge.
I mostly play my Warlock in world content. My Voidwalker takes all the damage while I dot everything up. So, pet is mandatory to not die.
Look for the handy talent that sacrifices your pet.

Demo: Fel guard (and 50 others you summon in combat)
Destro: imp.
Affl: sacrifice felhunter (for interupt) or voidwalker (survival cooldown)
Imp is pretty uninstrusive as pets go in WoW.
For demo? 100%. They are built around their demon summons. For other 2, it depends on whats best for M+/raid,
No they’re not, but depending on what content your doing, they are needed, as some of our utilities are locked to our minions.
