H Za'qul help needed with logs

So my guild is having a bit of difficulty with H Za’qul. So I’m curious what a good raid comp looks like for this boss. We have 17 people; 2 tanks, and 4 heals. DPS was between 30k-45k. We keep getting slaughtered though. Some of our guildies believe having more heals will do the trick, but I’m afraid we won’t be able to get the shield down in time. Our best pull was around 23%. Things really started getting bad at about 40%.

What should the minimum DPS be for this fight? Is our difficulty coming down to just mechanics?

Who do you have going into the delirium realm?

Logs would be really beneficial for people to give you advice/help.

We found three main hurdles:

  1. People standing in the middle and/or not watching for tentacles. Stack on the boss, have tanks call and move it if the tentacle is gonna come from directly in front or behind. Anyone standing in the middle like a moron will get a surprise booty call no matter which direction it comes from.

  2. Not realizing phases 2/3 are a race to get out of purple before hysteria stacks too high. Heroing when the first fissure pops on the boss and he takes increased damage tends to help quite a bit.

  3. Coordinating when to have people take the orange eyeballs in the final phase. Leave them on the ground while you kill summoners, then take them.

Here are logs from last night!

The first thing that jumps out at me is this:

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/pCwMNvmRYJPjgkcb#type=damage-taken&amp%3Bability=292565&amp%3Bboss=-2&amp%3Bdifficulty=0&amp%3Bwipes=1&boss=-2&difficulty=0&wipes=1&ability=292565

That’s a lot of tentacle love, and a lot of repeat customers. Now what happens between 17 consenting adults and a void beastie in the privacy of Nyalotha is their own business, but it needs to stay out of the raid.

Here, a Dark Pulse went off. Partly because DPS got tentacled to death early (melee, no less – they only have two directions to even look out for). But also because of this:

https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/pCwMNvmRYJPjgkcb#type=auras&fight=10&pins=0%24Separate%24%23244F4B%24casts%241%240.0.0.Any%24150859.0.0.Boss%24true%240.0.0.Any%24false%24296078%5E0%24Separate%24%23909049%24auras-gained%240%240.0.0.Any%240.0.0.Any%24true%240.0.0.Any%24false%24295249&spells=debuffs

People were super late getting into orange realm on the second pulse. Your spriest stayed in the first one so long he probably couldn’t jump down again sooner because he still had a ton of hysteria. You want to kill yourself and exit early after a while so you don’t strain healers and so you can make the next eyeball smoothly.

Also looks like your prot warrior is getting overwhelmed by Mind Tether – and here’s how fast it happens:

I’m not clear on the details (so someone correct me if I’m talking out my butt here, lol) but from what I understand the OT takes an unmitigated mirror of the MT’s incoming damage, as magic. This means he’s double-dipping hysteria and getting hammered with a massive unblockable magic melee. Might want to try swapping your tanks and see if your MT can survive it more reliably, because Tether hurts worse than the main damage intake. It goes off every 50s, so budget defensives accordingly.

Thank you for the reply! I’m sharing it with my RL

Shadow priest is basically doing his job on this fight (Though rotation leaves something to be desired). The spec has ample self sustain and as long as you aren’t dying, your ability to keep the adds at bay almost alone makes the rest of your raid much more able pump boss damage.

The thing is that’s not happening.

Besides the obvious tentacle / tank / silly deaths happening in every pull, the issue is largely a damage one. Not breaking the shield, spending too long in phases that are meant to be quicker, getting an overwhelming amount of mechanics because the boss hasn’t died yet. Unfortunately I don’t know the detailed workings of each dps spec in your raid (Aside from shadow), but I do know that I’d be wanting to see a lot more than 20k average boss dps.

Yeah I wasn’t quite gonna take the DPS numbers at face value since they have so many early deaths. I’d say focus on warm bodies first – if they got Ashvane, they have what this needs as long as they realize P2/3 is actually a race and not just a warmup.
