[H-RP] To Honor the Fallen: Discussion

Perhaps a small Discord group could be quickly put-together for the sole purpose of giving those parties interested in helping with the event a space to discuss times/dates, take on roles, (be it as a speaker, advertising, etc) and that sort of thing.
It may be easier to take on the event if you know who/how many are willing to pitch in to see it through!

I’d definitely support the December idea. I’d hate to see it cancelled.

That SAID we might ICly be busy so soon after expansion launch. Haha

Thalassian Elves Network is doing a remembrance event on 10/24 for the elves!

Hi-

To Honor the Fallen is an event where all walks of life come to pay respects to fallen soldiers and those who fell in the various wars, as well as conflicts. It doesn’t focus on one race solely. I’ll be sure let some circles know of your event, though. There are quite a few elves in the Vol’kar alone.

I’m thinking about a discord for discussion, but truthfully resistant due to how many ‘planning’ discords I’m already in. It seems as if frequently, they only have a few people that contribute while the rest succumb to groupthink. Project management is a headache, I know this firsthand. Which is why I’m more partial to a thread, because it enables posters to have far better, articulated thoughts instead of a sea of IMs that could easily be overlooked.

Well- now the expansion is delayed, and this is entirely plausible. Perhaps rescheduled for the end of the month, or earlier in November to make sure it’s out of the way of any possible zombie invasion or griefing. I’ll need some (undefined) time to think this through; since news has just so immediately come out.

Throwing a date at the wall: October 24th. A Saturday - one week after the pre-patch, and one week before Halloween. 19 days to settle it all in order. To the (Few) that view this thread: would this be acceptable? Timezones cooperating, of course.

Probs would work for me, tentatively

Thrilled this event is happening again and plan on being in attendance!

One thing: I see from the Thalassian Elves’ Network that they have . Remembrance of the Fallen (elves) event planned for Oct. 24th.

I know its something unavoidable, but it would suck to miss one event to attend the other. Just food for thought!

Whoops. I should read more thoroughly. Back to the drawing board, then. More or less, the issue is I wouldn’t want it done on a weekday - and I’m hesitant about November.

Wouldn’t want any kind of event to be anywhere near the zombie invasion, yet at the same time something like October 30th or 31st seems tacky.

November 7th would be the next best imo, though we flirt dangerously close to zombie girefing.

I haven’t had a chance to read through all of the replies just yet, so I’m not sure if it’s already been suggested, but it could be interesting to take the event outside of a Horde capital and to a prominent location where a considerable amount of lives were lost in the recent conflict.

The first location that comes to mind would be the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, as it was a focal region in which both factions bled heavily. I can’t think of a specific location within the Vale to congregate at, but there are plenty of interesting locales within.

I would also like to note, like many others already have, that I very much enjoyed the event the last time it was hosted and look forward to it being run again!

Vale could be a good idea, there is the small pond below where the raid is that if turn back time I think would still be there but without all the mobs to break immersion if the pandaren structure is still present or the Vale Capital! There is also a small cemetary/masoleum in Tol Barad some guildies showed me, but depends if people want to drink ICly after to celebrate the lives of their comrades, so you would want areas people can chat and RP, which may not make that the ideal place. Its a tough choice. If it was horde only even at the temple of loa in Zuldazar, which has a small trading district nearby for people to roa/chat, since the Battle of Dazralor took many lives in it. Idk though just spitballing some ideas

Zuldazar is a really good idea as well with a lot of good locations. Pretty much anywhere in Zanchul would work; there’s the Hall of Strength and Hall of Ritual in the back of the main ziggurat of Dazar’alor; the graveyard at the Terrace of the Speakers on the way out the side passage to and from Dazar’alor; etc.

Zuldazar might also be a little easier to get to for potential lower levels because of portals and the boat from the Echo Isles. It’s also a bonus because of proximity to the trading districts like you said.

I’m not really a ‘part’ of the community, but this seems interesting and I felt like adding that Zuldazar seems like a pretty reasonable choice, as Wraithcleave mentioned. Zanadalar being one of the newest members of the Horde, Zuldazar being the site of one of the war’s major battles, and the work (presumably) needed to repair Dazar’alor after the siege could be a cool way to show unity.

Good ideas. Tol Barad would be too old / archaic, many people might not be able to relate or understand because their characters are very focused on recent events. If you wanted to earn a few gray hairs: Cataclysm released 10.9 years ago ().

Zandalar seems like an interesting choice- but the last memorial did focus on the 4th war pretty heavily. I appreciate the feedback from everyone regardless. I will mull it over quickly - besides that, I’m leaning heavily on November 7th. Early enough not to cause any collisions with other events, and just late enough not to sit in the shadow of any other holiday or significant IRL occurrence.

I could obviously be wrong, but as far as I’m able to research, the only things that occur on November 7th is “National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day”, “National Canine Lymphoma Remembrance” and “National Stout Day”. So, unless someone was thinking of honoring their dog with dark chocolate and intense German brew - I’m thinkin’ that’s the date to use.

I guess I’ll just have to cancel my plans. Looks like a good date besides though.

Ah, folks, I have a feeling the answer has been right in front of us the whole time.

With Shadowlands’ main focus being the afterlife, and the barrier between life and death,

we should have the event hosted in Northrend, focusing on the efforts of the Horde during the Wrath of the Lich King and the losses from the northern campaign.

The sacrifices of these individuals would still be felt today; namely so, by the big man who helped temper a certain Hellscream and supported Tirion’s ascent in ICC.

I’ll be scouting some areas that aren’t phased and easily accessible; but that would be 100% fitting to the future theme of SL.

Edit: and this has been thought of, since Sarestha comes to mind, then I apologize for being a dork and not seeing the connection sooner.
