[H-RP: Event] Sermon of the Forgotten Shadow

The event was amazing! It was really unique, and I’m looking forward to next month’s.

If you have not had the chance to attend one of Maerlyn’s sermons, I cannot recommend it enough. Maerlyn’s beautiful prose never fails to absorb, and if you’re in the mood for some dark, Forsaken religion, then look no further.

Whether you cleave to the Light, the Shadow, or the balance in between, you can’t go wrong with an evening of listening to my favourite Bishop. : ) Maerlyn’s writing is always a pleasure to read, and I adore attending -any- of his events.

Great job yet again tonight Maerlyn! Was rather interesting to see how this one seemed to cater more towards Discipline Priests, whereas last month’s sermon seemed more geared towards Shadow Priests a mite bit! Was a rather impressive turn out once more as well!!! Particularly among the breathers!

Sort of, part of why I like the Forgotten Shadow as a religious concept is that it actually taps into how Shadow Priests feel about the Light, rather then devoting oneself wholly and completely to the Void to the point of blindness. Seline Natalie is very clearly a Shadow Priest, as are her followers, but she talks about weaving a tapestry of light and darkness.

To me that naturally translates to the Shadow, the darkness casted through the Light, and that’s what makes Forsaken religion so distinct. Personally, i’m hoping Blizzard explores it more in the future, as that emphasis on using the light to better understand the Void is an interesting one.

This is true! The whole thing rather reminded me of an old quote… “light creates shadow, light destroys shadow, such is the nature of light and darkness.” It’s often used inappropriately to illustrate the stength of the light or a strong moral compass, but rather, its initial intent was to point out the physical nature of it: The brighter a flame is, when you put something in its path, the deeper of a shadow it would cast upon a wall. And yet without a light source, that shadow wouldn’t exist in the first place.

Wow! I wake up this morning to see such kind replies—and I absolutely love the discussion it’s sparked as well! Thank you all so much for coming out again and making this event successful.

By now you’ve all probably figured out that I am a huge fan of Natalie Seline and the lore surrounding the Cult of Forgotten Shadows (and the teachings of the Cult, as well). Interestingly enough, when I was doing my research on some of the Cult’s lore, I found evidence that eventually led me to the conclusion that the priests of the Cult almost seem more in line with Discipline “theology” than strict Shadow.

Of course, the Cult is also a very loose organization with no real structure—which I love—because it allows for many RPers to bring their own interpretation of the virtues and tenets into RP. Some may favor strictly Shadow, some may preach a balance, but as long as it leads to RP, I love it.

Keep an eye out for next month’s sermon, to be announced soon!

Slightly embarrassed to admit, but I failed to do my due diligence and became too late to hear of this second event. I shall do better. Just in case, if there is a list you might keep of names which will receive a calendar invite when you have a date set, may I be on that too?

Well, Vendorioc was rather upset at the theme of balance between the Light and Shadow as he’s as far to the Void side as one can get. That may lead to some interesting interactions if you’re ever in the mood for theological debate and disagreement. I personally really enjoy the events and your way with words specifically even if my IC beliefs aren’t Orthodox. Let’s get the CoTFS RP going!

Dang it, I won’t make this one. Ironically, because the highest ranked Forsaken in my guild is running a story event :star_struck: however, it looks like you’re generally aiming for the last Saturday of the month? And I can reserve that space for March!

Yep, the goal is the last Saturday of each month! I will do my best to provide updates regardless, so that if I need to cancel or adjust the date in any way, you’ll be informed.

ok! Well, I’m putting a reserved spot on our calendar for March! Looking forward to so many of these

I’m definitely going to be there! Not sure if I’ll bring my stinky blood knight or one of my Forsaken who need more love and attention, but I’m excited I can finally make one of these. Pretty sure more people from Blackheart are interested as well, we’ve accumulated quite the Forsaken group who’d love to have a listen!
