I mained GNB before I knew he was going to be GNB. Ergo, he’s a WoL groupie.
It’s MY turn!
Curious how Dancer would work in WoW, was one of my favorite jobs.
Maybe it’d be similar to Aug a bit
I just think it all requires too much suspension of disbelief.
Why can’t every class just purchase and attach this tech to their kit? Why can’t rogues have rocket launchers on their shoulders and shoot electricity bolts from their goggles? Engineering is best left as an augmentation to every class.
What they need to do is make that profession actually good and then we’d be able to have a modicum of this fantasy on any class that we want.
I think DNC would be genuinely one of the hardest classes to convert from FFXIV not because of its rng combo gameplay, but because wow doesn’t really do high mobility with fancy moves in a way that would fit its aesthetics (monk almost gets there but imo comes short - same issue a red mage might have - it’s a class that fights with moves way fancier than what even rogues get in wow)
Gunlance > Gunblade
Yes Blizzard. Let me make a Forsaken Doom Slayer.
sounds like ahunter with extra steps
To be fair, WoW could have the advantage if Blizz can figure out a way to make it a logical thing in-world. FFXIV’s Gunbreaker basically disregarded the lore up until that point because the devs cared more about making Squall from FFVIII a playable class (that the gunbreaker job quests are a massive dumpster fire are testament of this). It’d be like having NPCs that are a priest-like class, then when you decide to make it playable you implement an onmoyuji class that shares maybe one superficial detail with the NPC priests you introduced so far, just because you thought Japan was cool.
Sounds like a good replacement for the MM spec.
We have Gnomes and Goblins flying around in mech suits shooting lasers at each other like an anime and you think that stuff mentioned is too far fetched?
We have everyone flying around in robots. I’ve got some!
But that doesn’t mean that tech classes sound fun to me. Which is why I’d much rather have engineering be a fun profession that everyone can eek some of that concept out of than have tinkers or gunblades.
I don’t think the tinker class is far fetched. I think it’s far fetched that these things would be limited to a class when anyone can pick up the tech and use it with the proper knowledge. It’s not like spending half of a life to learn magic. It’s picking up a grenade and throwing it.
As for gunblade it’s literally just a warrior with a gun in its sword. It can’t flesh out three spec talent trees, a class tree, and two hero trees on its own merits.
The idea is that while everyone can use tech, not everyone is Tony Stark/Iron Man who can build advanced/custom tech.
The problem is that with engineering being a thing we are in fact all capable of being Tony Stark. So creating a tech class and restricting what are essentially just engineer creations to them would be silly.
It would also limit what can be added to engineering without stepping on Tinkertoes.
All around a mid idea to me.
Yes lets just copy ffxiv. God knows that will end well for WoW.
I agree, FFVIII was underrated.

But you really can’t, because we encounter inventors in WoW who can do things that Engineering Engineers can’t do all the time. Mimiron, Gazlowe, Mekkatorque, and Blackfuse being four major examples. Also Engineering’s devices backfire. Machines built by advanced tinkers do not.
For example, we see those four characters I mentioned building and fighting inside mech suits. Engineering will never offer players the opportunity to tank/DPS/Heal in a raid or dungeon in a mech suit. A tech class would.
Best card game in the series. One of the best stories in the series. Some of the best characters in the series. Most people that don’t like it simply don’t like the draw system, which is kind of understandable; it’s grindy. My favorite FF, by the way.

Why can’t every class just purchase and attach this tech to their kit?
Same reason not every class can shoot a gun like a Hunter or carry a sword like a Warrior. What a disingenuous argument.

For example, we see those four characters I mentioned building and fighting inside mech suits.
We see Khadgar using a bird travel form. Thrall killing Mannoroth with a thrown 2 handed axe. Malfurion’s roots literally dragging people into the earth. Sylv turning into a banshee and reaping the souls of anything she passes through.
Hero characters have things that separate them from PCs. It’s what helps build a story and creates hero characters.

Engineering will never offer players the opportunity to tank/DPS/Heal in a raid or dungeon in a mech suit.
I’d personally prefer it that way. I’d like engineering to be an actually useful profession but I don’t think what amounts to “playable mech suit” qualifies as an appealing class. Again most of this is just my opinion.

Druids have bird travel form. Warriors can throw 2h weapons. Druids have multiple spells where they summon roots. Hunters can also turn into banshees and leech off the souls they kill.
Everything you mentioned is possible in some form or another via the existing class. However, no existing class is capable of fighting inside a mech like Gazlowe, Mekkatorque, and various other Goblin and Gnome characters.

You’re welcome to that opinion. My point is that it’s a prominent part of the Goblin and Gnome race, was a prominent part of the Goblin hero in WC3, and is being utilized by Goblin and Gnome faction leaders, so it should be a playable aspect of WoW.
