Guild Rename Broken

i created a wow guild charter on my alt character, thereby taking a guild name. then i raised the money to buy the name on my main character. then i logged to my main and went to purchase a guild rename using the already paid for name which my alt has. i got an error saying the name was already taken. i went to my alt character and renamed the guild to something random. i went back to my main character and tried to rename my current guild to the name i had previously taken. an error told me again that the name was already taken. is this a known issue? is there a cooldown for this? what’s going on here?

The game protects the name you originally put in when you bought the charter, as long as that charter exists no one, including your main or alts, can claim that Guild Name. Until that protection falls off in some time. (not sure the timeframe for this though)

Renaming the charter doesn’t wipe away that protection. Did you finish that charter on your alt?

thanks for the response! i never added anyone to the alt charter. i may try simply deleting it but i think that protection you mention probably has a cooldown. my guess is 30 to 90 days
