Guild forcing me into one spec

110 Demon Hunters can easily solo MC. What’s the problem?

Sounds fair, Ele is PvP bruh, its classic, its how it is…

Welcome to progression raiding. This is what happens when a guild is stuck and needs to take steps to move everyone forward. This is why LFR and multiple specs exist in retail. G kicking is a bit much, but taking you off the raiding roster is perfectly reasonable. Either take one for the team and switch specs or find another guild who is willing to carry you through raids in a non-optimal spec.

It was common in Vanilla, yeah. That’s why you saw all those comments/posts about “If you’re capable of healing, you’re going to heal in order to raid”.

Never donate to a guild, ever- especially not one that’s that trash.

On the other hand- when you join a raid guild, always check what specs they want.

Still, that’s a garbage guild- anyone that would look at someone willing to donate gold/mats to the guild and say ‘hey, let’s kick that guy’ is run by either blithering morons that aren’t going to get far, or by the type that’ll ninja the gbank at some point and hop to another better guild.

yes …the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few

Or the one?

I mean… you are right. I have this theory that MC could be cleared by only using hunter pets. Would be fun to find out!

However, raids iwll get harder as classic progresses. Is it better to rip off the bandaid now or find out down the road that your raid can’t kill any bosses in Naxx because everyone is playing their favorite spec that just doesn’t compete?

  1. Go along with what the guild wants.

  2. Gain your Guild Master’s trust over a period of years until the Guild Master goes on vacation and gives you their account info so you can manage the guild bank 'toon in their absence.

  3. Log into Guild Master’s account, sell all their gear, mail all gold and mats to your 'toon. Sell account to gold farmer.

  4. ???

  5. Profit!

What is the entire point of farming MC? To gear up for BWL. And the entire point of BWL will be to gear up for AQ, etc. The raids won’t always be as faceroll easy as MC. They will get harder each tier, and at some point the team will need everyone to pull their weight. Best to start building that team now instead of wasting gear on players who “don’t care” about their contribution and are just looking for others to carry them.

Normal? Yeah.

Jerk move? Also yeah.

It is a common attitude for guilds to pressure players into “optimal” specs. If you want to play a different one, it will take some hunting.

Lesson to learn: don’t invest in a guild that won’t let you play the role you want to in the first place.

If you can’t find one that will? Start your own!

There are no raids in classic that can’t be cleared with large numbers of the “sub-optimal” specs.

They are all dps specs, and thats by FAR the easiest hurdle to clear in raiding. Virtually every dps spec is capable of the minimum requirements to full clear naxx.

you need to ask yourself.
Do you want to raid with those people
or do you want to play elemental

Something seems a bit off here.

If the guild has been farming MC since Sept. If the guild already has shadow priests and boomkins and other off-specs. If they are good on healers and didn;t need you to spec resto to fill a slot normally taken by a healer. Then, it seems unusual that they would single you out and threaten to gkick you for non-compliance. Seems overly-harsh and I suspect there is some part of the story that the OP isn’t telling…

So, what else is going on here?

If this were me, I would have communicated my intentions about spec and raiding early on with the GM. Probably back when I joined, but at least when I turned 60 or got close enough to take a raid spot. Either you did not communicate your intentions and incorrect assumptions were made.

Or these guys don’t like you for some reason and they are just using this as a pretext to kick you. You should probably find another guild and chalk up the lost mats to lesson learned.

Yawn, more elitist talk. Optimal doesn’t mean crap. If a guild doesn’t let someone raid because they want to be outside the optimal spec, they are trash people.

People are clearing raids with sub 60s, in greens, and less than 30 people. Spec doesn’t matter AT ALL provided you’ve got the tank and healers.

Ok, good luck on Patchwerk.

It will be 2020 when Patchwerk comes out. We have groups easily kill Rag before first submerge with meme specs and 1/2 empty raids. No one will have any trouble with Patchwerk.

It’s a pure dps check. If your raid is full of ret paladins, shadow priests, and elemental shaman… you are gonna have problems.

it WAS a pure DPS check 15 years ago when people were barely pushing 500dps in AQ40 gear. Now people are hitting 1k dps parses in MC.

Patchwerk requires like at most, 360 dps per player…

There are ret paladins already doing that in molten core gear…

Not exactly sure where the struggle will come from there.

You can absolutely clear Naxx with a sizeable number of rets, moonkins, shadow priests, etc., so long as they are optimized properly.

Mix in a few of the optimal dps classes, and you start to easily outpace any dps requirement the game throws at you.

DPS will not ever be a stumbling block for guilds this time around. We understand min/maxing WAAAY better now.

Hate to be that guy, me being shadow as well but… this is normal in vanilla. Respec or find a guild who will let you be elemental. Follow what makes you happy.
