Guild Banks Pt. 14

Opening up your web browser is a security risk, going to thottbot is a security risk, blizzard should implement wowhead/thottbot integration into vanilla that way they remove the security risk of people opening up their web browsers to look stuff up.

Edit Trololololol

Maybe Blizzard could just say “Be gone vile thottbot”.

lmao just tried to go to thottbot…

Gentle reminder that having a different opinion is not trolling

Should I have necro’d the part 9999 instead? I personally prefer this one because it’s got debate, obstinate debate perhaps, but debate none the less. Besides, this is still light years better than the AV debate.

No, you are fine. Keeping 1 long running thread is way better. You will get the wrath of the self proclaimed forum mods “why didn’t you use the search feature” otherwise

if the idea is to use 1.12 front end on modern back end than it still comes down to what is in 1.12. Mail systems is more of a back end change. The only part the players interact with on any level is teh mail box.

On the other hand in vanilla there were no guild banks. The asset didnt exsist. Does this mean they couldnt put it in? No they very well could. However, that does change the way the game is played to some extent.

Instead of relying on other players, you now have a stock pile of mats in the guild bank. Starting to rely less on other players and more on the guild.

I would prefer Banks stay a part of BC and people have to start putting some trust back in the players. Of course, thats not an easy thing to do on the internet.

No, it doesn’t.

I am saying “No” with the assumption that the entire faction I’m playing on, doesn’t want to cram into the same guild. If we played on a tiny server with one guild per faction, then I’d whole heartedly agree with you.

There’s a limit to the total alts you can make per server in vanilla, not only would you need to micromanage bank alts for yourself but on top of it, just having one alt (even with a maxed out bank) wouldn’t come even close to the total capacity of a guild bank and having more becomes a bigger headache along with taking up alt slots (which most people tend to roll contrary to the common theme, not as many as you’d see in live but still at least 3 or 4) and on top of that each alt could in theory have a guild tied to them for a guild bank, only stacking total space further. The other issue is the lack of shared space that comes with bank alts, if you want something from the GBA you either wait an hour or have him trade it directly, putting that level of responsibility on whoever owns it as you cannot access it without said player.

I suppose if a 1 hour CD for withdrawal was added to all deposits into the guild bank. Would that fix this imaginary issue?

It’s less so the timer and more so that the individual who runs the GBA needs to be distributing (and cataloging if you’re running a log on it) items correctly. This becomes their responsibility to take care of and the addition of guild banks removes such a role that was essential to vanilla wow guild success.

Are people trying to compare the mail and the guild bank?

Cough*
That’s funny. See part of what made vanilla great was people not feeling like they needed to be in main cities. Guild Banks would only be in cities thus people would operate more around that for the guild bank compared to the mail box.

That’s just a quick thought.

I’d like to see how you come to this belief.

So many reasons to hangout in Capitol city’s. We could have a 500+ thread on which is the best city.

Maybe because later half WLK and throughout Cata one of the largest complaints was that we had no reason to be out in the world doing things? It’s why later expansions then focused on making people be out in the world etc.

I am not going to pretend to know what is best, but the assumption hat adding guild banks will do little to the game at all is laughable considering how even the smallest of changes have had some dire effects to the game over the past 14 years.

The guilds I were in during vanilla never had designated GBA. What you’ve said here, is more cumbersome than what I would ever participate in.

We’ve always gotten by fine with a, “hey I have x item” anybody need?” Then I mail it to whomever requests.

+1 to guild banks

A fair point, but it does eliminate the need for mail and trades between guild members. A player in the Undercity can instantly send something to a fellow guild member in Orgrimmar.

Also, I would have no issue if a 1 hour CD was imposed on all guild bank transactions. My concern is that after the GBs were in that players would lobby for the removal of the CD.

After all, give a mouse a cookie and soon enough he’ll ask for a glass of milk.

That’s assuming guild banks would be in every city.

They don’t have to be.

When comparing the differences between BfA and vanilla, there’s a whole lot more than guild banks. Please explain, what dire effect did introducing guild banks have on WoW?

So are people suggesting something like this:

  1. Guild banks only appearing in Orgimmar for the Horde and Stormwind for the Alliance.

  2. A 1 Hr cooldown on all guild bank transactions.

While I think it’s a fair enough idea in theory, my concern is what I stated before. Namely, that once guild banks were in the game that players would start lobbying for changes to make them more convenient and I strongly suspect that lobbying would start once raiding was being done on a fairly broad scale. If any group of players can ruin something, it’s the “raid or die” crowd.

Even still, would that be so bad? The only perk to being in a guild would be faster transactions among guildies.

Kinda promotes guild community. Isn’t that what we want?
