Guild Banks Pt. 14

Something the proponents of guild banks will not tell you is that those precious logs are practically meaningless. They do not prevent theft or even let you know who the thief was.

Sure they tell you who made the withdrawal, but they don’t tell you what happened after the withdrawal was made.

Johnny officer withdraws 20 devilsaur leather and gives it to Billy. Billy sells that devilsaurs leather to fund his epic mount. He claims that Johnny never gave him the leather.

Or the opposite could happen.

Johnny officer withdraws that stack of devilsaur leather and sells it to fund his epic mount. He then claims he gave the leather to Billy who had requested it.

Those precious guild bank logs did not prevent that theft, nor did they show beyond a shadow of a doubt who the thief was or prevent a “he said, she said”.

Not any different in your belief that guild banks do not have permission levels, an in game viewable log and are a total free for all

But you expect us to believe that no one will exploit the right click report system?

I can’t help but wonder what motivates those who hand wave this concern and down play the impact real money trade has on mmo’s.
Oh right right that authentic Vanilla version where people made small fortunes buying/selling in game currencies, items, and accounts…
Wonder why that is…oh that’s right. The almighty dollar. Greed.

As I noted earlier, with one single exception, EVERY point for or against guild banks has a counter.

In this case, we have a central repository (that never ecisted in vsnilla) that some claim is a security risk, versus players securely storing items on their own characters without having that central repository that never existed in vanilla.

Doesn’t matter what the count is. It matters what the counters say they counted. Fudging numbers is as old as inventory tracking itself.

You trust people too much. You know damn well people will exploit any holes in the system.

You expect us to believe that when it comes to a system that is easily scammed for real world profits that we should trust and anyone questioning that is untrustworthy? Lol. Uh huh. Yea like I said I’ll keep my untrustworthy items to myself and help individuals. GBA’s will become a gold stream for real money traders. I won’t donate to them that is for sure. You can trust that.

It doesn’t even have to be real world profits. It should be obvious that guild banks need to be protected as a whole. I can’t see protecting accounts would be acceptable but not guild banks.

And when Billy checks that website and sees only 10 devilsaur leather when he sent 20, don’t you think that he is going to say something?

If your answer is that it becomes a “he said, she said” at that point, she my previous post pointing out how those previous guild bank logs do not prevent theft, show who the thief is or prevent “he said, she said” situations.

We get it. You want your non vanilla QOL convenience change.

I expect that people will store their items on their own characters if they do notvtrustvthe guild officers.

I have said numerous times before that storing your own items and letting your guild officers know that you are happy to share them with the guild is a very viable way to ensure security while still contributing to the guild.

Pointing out your hypocrisy is hardly moving goalposts.

I’ve only ever donated surplus items to the guild bank. I feel like it is my personal responsibility to gear up myself and farm my own mats for my own gear. I don’t like being a burden to others and asking for handouts. When I get ahead, I then don’t helping others but I imagine they would have the same mentality as myself.

Well it seems to me you are asking a question that doesn’t have enough info to ascertain “what Billy is thinking”. I’m not Billy. Most likely I don’t think like Billy. Has Billy seen this before? Have others? When did Billy check? Is there a withdrawal noted? Given the only information you have provided (if Billy thinks like me) if I were Billy I’d ask some questions before coming to a knee jerk conclusion with limited info.

Well ofc that is what it becomes when there is no way to prove or disprove what is being stated. That is exactly why logs are kept to track inventories. That is also why systems are now designed to prevent fudging those numbers with multiple checks in place to prevent inventory discrepancies or someo e skimming off the top. I bet most are glad their real world bank does this…

We get it. You want to get your epic mount for free from donations and maybe a nice little nest egg…yea. keep projecting. We can do that too…

Sure he will say something.

And then it’s a Salem witch trial of he said she said.

Guess what guild bank logs can’t have happen to them? Fudged numbers.

So that’s one of the security issues fixed right there. And if you don’t think a missing item is a security issue for the guild, you have never seen the tracking businesses do to ensure there is no funny business going on.

Except it doesn’t stop the officers from scamming the rest of the guild with 0 paper trail.

Guild banks give an uneditable log. Which results in a clear paper trail to follow of something is off.

Kind of like a guy saying that people can’t be trusted with right click report but hey we should trust everyo e when it comes to guild inventory being tracked out of game with a blind trust system. In a game that gold will hold a high real world value. Uh huh.

Again, see my previous post showing that your precious guild bank logs are virtually worthless in preventing theft, showing who the thief is or preventing “he said, she said witchtrials”.

Of course, I’m sure you will refuse to acknowledge that as it does not support your desire for this one of your pet non vanilla QOL convenience changes being added to classic.

No.

It’s kind of like a guy saying that the right click report system will be abused, and people have no way to prevent that abuse.

People do have a way to prevent abuse of guild bank alts if they fell that abuse will occur, though.
