Guild Banks Pt. 14

To be fair, selling accounts was a HUGE thing back in Vanilla/TBC. A coworker told me he quit WoW and sold his account for $600 just to pay rent back in 2007-8. It’s not out of the realm of possibilty they had a different account they played Vanilla on. I’m not saying that is what they did, I’m just stating it happened with others.

So by that you mean don’t try to prevent he blind scams that were guild bank alts?

KK. You have your opinion of what would “ruin” classic.

My opinion on what would ruin classic is leaving a system in place that let’s people make real world cash off of people’s blind Faith in their almighty guild bank alt overlords who can change the out of game logs to show anything they want.

But hay, you weren’t used as a scapegoat for missing devilsaur leather and got blacklisted when you were the one providing that leather to the guild on the first place…

The simplest way to avoid this happening again would be to simply make a bank alt yourself and don’t donate anything you’re not willing to part with forever to someone else, regardless of guild status.

I gave mats to enchanters that stole them. I got AH scammed, and a million other things. I had a ninja loot the first blue weapon drop that was finally supposed to be mine. Etc.

Guild banks weren’t added until 2.3. That is all that matters. Period. There are changes I’d love to see, but other people would hate them. The only fair compromise is a true Classic experience. You can explain it all you want, but if it is 2.3 it should not be in Classic. Period. No changes.

Your current line of deflection isn’t working. Seriously. Give it up. You made a claim and I called you on it. Now you are trying to be super cool edgy kid and deflect out of it. Your bluff was called. You know nothing.

And then the solution becomes don’t have faith or trust in anyone, which is a bad solution.

Here’s the issue. Guild bank alts have no form of control, no reliable logs, no way to verify anything. This means the guild bank alt system is based on FAITH not trust. Trust is where you give someone a chance but don’t turn a blind eye to the possibility of deceit. I trusty bank with my money, but I still look at my bank statements.

Of you want a system based on faith, good for you. I would rather have a system based on trust that can be verified.

Blind trust in anything is called faith, I’m not going to blindly trust anyone with what could easily turn into a lot of $$$ for the real world.

There have been jokes about cash shops to buy thunderfury, well guilds store the mats for this item in a guild bank alt in vanilla quite often, who’s to say someone won’t sell out for $100+ for those “guild mats” and then say he gave it to X. Then X tells the truth that he never got it, but everyone believes the guild bank alt. Not because of trust. But blind Faith. Accurate uneditable logs help prove truth in these situations. Even just the time stamp of a guild bank log can reveal the truth depending on the situation and what other information is available.

This is why I don’t want the guild bank alt system to be in place as “the norm” it’s far to easily abused.

Sorry you can’t take my soul with no Mana (viper sting), nor can you even get in range to do so because I’m shooting you outside of your silly caster range.

fear or seduce gets me in your deadzone btw.

No it isn’t, because its not true. Why would you be in a guild with no one you trust?

And you are making an emotional appeal to an issue based on chronology. 2.3 is a whole expansion+ a bunch of patches after 1.12.

There are tons of great things that came after 1.12. Tons. Every single person on this forum, even the die-hardest no-changers, have some things they’d love added into Classic. All our lists are different. The only fair, reasonable, and logical answer is no one gets what they want. We get an accurate Classic, and the people that can’t live without the changes they want can stick with retail.

That’s a nice opinion. Now let me know when you want to think logically to not let Susan use an entire guild(s) to buy a mansion.

It wasn’t an uncommon scam in vanilla.

Make a “leveling then raiding guild” get a guild bank alt army to store thousands of gold worth of items for the guild. Skim off the top for a few months. Then once it’s clear it’s near its peak (guild starts to fall apart) take everything and make tons of gold then real world sell it for $$$.

Need an example of this type of behavior “paying off” for the scammer? Look at Eve online scams. Blindly trusting and having faith in people in an online environment is not a good idea.

Pet still has to catch me to be in range of that., While I’m 40 yards away, run faster than you and your pet, and can trap your pet as I kite you to OOM. Go ahead and life tap, just makes killing you easier.

2.3 coming way after 1.12 is fact, not opinion. You are making an emotional appeal to make Classic not Classic so something you don’t like doesn’t happen.

No changes. Make Classic Classic. You want Classic to be Classic+ the changes you want because of emotions.

Again, we all have our lists of the things we want added to Classic to make it a game we would more enjoy. The issue is all our lists differ. Guild banks stop the most convoluted and long term ridiculous scam. It won’t stop the most common and prolific scams. And most people want the guild banks for way different reasons than your crazy scam scheme.

No changes and making Classic actually Classic is the only fair and reasonable compromise for everyone. If you absolutely need guild banks stick with retail or wait for there to be a BC server. I’m hoping and praying for a BC server so I can get all the things I really love that aren’t in Classic.

This right here, this is the opinion I was referring to.

Seems I had to point that out for you…

I know it did, used to hear about it a lot back then, 600 was not bad, but a really good one would go for a lot more iirc.

oh course i might add, allegedly :O)

How is that opinion? It has been clearly stated by the devs they want Classic to be authentic. 2.3 came after vanilla. 2.3 is not vanilla and not Classic.

I’m having a hard time understanding the disconnect we are having on this point. You want Classic to not be Classic by adding stuff from 2.3. That would make it Classic+

Please answer - Why should your list of changes be an exception to Classic’s authenticity and not my list of changes I want? If everyone got their list of changes we’d have retail. Why not just stick to retail?

The devs also said they are making some changes for the sake of security, stability, exc.

Not to game systems and mechanics. Classic will be an authentic gameplay experience. Thats where the no changes come in. Tons of people are furious about the layering, which doesn’t directly change gameplay or mechanics, but effects community. We would love more information on when they specifically plan on removing it.
