An area we want to double-down on in a big way is our community. You are what brings Azeroth to life, and you make our game truly unique. To properly commit to this fundamental aspect of World of Warcraft, we now have a dedicated Social initiative within our development team. Social stands alongside our other initiatives (like Expansions or Housing) to provide solutions and features—like, for example, rewards for positive behavior, easier ways to connect with like-minded players, roleplaying <gasp!>, and more. As an even more specific example, we’re looking at improvements to how we connect in-game Friends, Group Finder, and better integration to common external social platforms that we know the community uses regularly. The team is working on Social projects now that we hope to be able to share more about over the next year.
All this about community and “social” … and nothing about guilds …
They closed the door back in August when they retreated under their rock to decide how they could spin the news of how incompetent their team is. The prevarication in the blue grunt post you see is the result of their 5 weeks of brainstorming. Notice how there has been no response whatsoever regarding any of the other data loss bugs which have been lurking around for almost 6 months now.

We will be hearing about random things disappearing from player houses very shortly I’m sure.

They refuse to acknowledge the presence and importance of GUILDS in the SOCIAL FABRIC of the game. How many times have I read about people leaving WoW because their GUILDS DIED?
Blizzard and many players mistakenly think that the ONLY use for a guild is content-driven. I know that a LOT of guids are about running raids or organized M+ dungeons, and that’s great. But other guilds are just about you know, COMMUNITY, players who, for some reason, came together to share SOMETHING. Maybe it’s just having people to talk to? Before the cross-realm, cross-faction feature, there are people who DID NOT PLAY on certain toons because it wasn’t in their favorite guild.
We might also offer things like MATS, consumables or cheaper/easier access to work-orders (that is, if our BANKS weren’t emptied by some stupid, mysterious BUG that stole OUR STUFF). We might find like-minded people to do achievements, mog or mount runs. A lot of us talk in green chat WHILE DOING OUR OWN THING. In Newcomer chats I read people constantly asking about how to find a guild, or people in general chat bemoaning the loss of their guild (maybe it died a slow death?)
And yet, I think Blizzard wishes it would just GO AWAY. Other than the cross-realm/faction stuff, which was nice, they’ve done SO LITTLE for guilds and won’t even acknowledge that they exist or have an important place in the game UNLESS they are some well-known RWF guild.
The Guild Finder/Recruitment tool is . . .well, to say that it’s a USELESS PIECE OF RUBBISH is a compliment. It’s awful. You can’t even communicate with people through it. The categories and items in it (weekday vs. weekend? WTF? There are SEVEN DAYS IN THE WEEK and people might have actual preferred DAYS rather than 2 choices) are so vague as to be useless.
They do very little for those that HELP the community, be it guild leader, guild officers (with various roles, such as recruitment, bank, etc.) or Mentors in the Newcomer Chat. But they often let toxic behavior keep going so that a LOT of people are reluctant to PUG. Yes, there are TOOLS to pug, but a lot of people DON’T WANT TO DO IT (unless it’s pretty easy stuff like TWs) due to people’s behavior. Why not try to help out the very people that are TRYING TO HELP MAINTAIN THE COMMUNITY IN THE GAME???
(Don’t get me started on Newcomer chat . . . could write a whole book on that).
What are we supposed to do about all of the things we’ll never get back apparently? Do we give up and keep paying for a game that doesn’t care about us? Or do we find the CEO and take it up with them?
Or do we find the CEO and take it up with them?
They wouldn’t entertain you, at best you’d get an automated response similar to the original post.
I stopped paying them any money whatsoever, and advise others to do the same. I still have access to all the friends I chat with in-game via battle.net chat or other channels, I don’t need their game anymore, since the only reason I validate paying a sub for a game like this is the persistence of the world, which they have completely violated with this guild bank fiasco.
Up to everyone to figure out how they’re going to deal with them never fixing this/restoring anything else in their own way I guess.
Do we give up and keep paying for a game that doesn’t care about us?
NOW you’re getting it!
Remember to check the store often to find our next outrageously priced mount!
a game that doesn’t care about us?
Of course, it’s an exceptionally rare company that actually cares for its customers (as opposed to lying about it in their marketing). Certainly, Blizzard hasn’t been that company for a very long time.
Expecting anything other than a heartless, purely transactional relationship with a corporate entity is usually unwise, because it puts you in the disadvantage of caring when the other side doesn’t.
Not necessarily true…people still post here without giving Blizz any money…in the ridiculous hope that some sort of restitution will come about before all faith/trust in Blizz is gone!! I had three subs when this BS occurred and now I am done to one! Sure, I could have quit altogether but I resub’d my third a week before ^&*( hit the fan last August. I still enjoy the game enough to keep playing for what I paid for, but once my time expires in seven months (without any compensation for lost items) that will be it for me! On top of that I really feel that Blizz is going to PUSH PUSH PUSH the idea of FOMO, etc. more and more for revenue rather than appreciate in-game content or player opinion.
Don’t worry Heather Longdale and the others at Blizz are REAL STAND UP PEOPLE, I mean as I stated months ago they said, “If something is broken, fix it…if something is wrong, make it right!” That’s clearly what they are doing, no???
It is quite something that Blizzard is in total deny of the situation months later…
I am still not able to use my Gbank, out of fear I may break the process of recovery or that stuff goes kaboom again.
I have yet to buy anything from Blizzard since the incident, no D4 expansion, no WOW expansion, no shop items, nada.
I played WoW for 20 years and loved Blizzard. I don’t anymore. They deleted hundreds of millions of players items and data, and they don’t even care.
They could have used resources, money and time, to restore our items, but they didn’t care. They can sell a $90 mount.
Not only that.
They let us (me and my wife) buy 2x expansion and 2x 6 months sub to then in a few weeks screw up and make those invalid. We’re talking about 200€ for us.
But you could still play the game!.. no, after we experienced that our persistent world wasn’t guaranteed it was over. I accept everything is lost when a game ends (been through a couple of MMO deaths in my time)… but not when its still active.
They messed up BIG and we got nothing: No restoration, no compensation, not even a refund. They take your items, time and money and then put you out with the trash.
Thanks for loving your community so much Blizzard, it really shows. /s
Got a response back from the Australia Government department to my complaint,…not that I was ever expecting to get anywhere with it.
But the response pretty much shows what I was expecting really. Nothing.
"Blizzard Australia Pty Ltd has stated “The lost guild bank assets are digital items, and we do not consider those items to hold any monetary real-world value. As such, we would be unable to provide this customer with any refunds in relation to the data that was lost and the items that could not be restored to their account.”
Based on the above response by Blizzard, we will be closing the Complaint."
I guess “goodwill” and “looking after the customer” are terms that mean nothing to Blizzard really. For all the hundreds of people that lost stuff, would it have really affected them that much to at least give something in a form of goodwill,…it would have gone a long way. But nope.
I didn’t read her nonsense reflection marketing hype, but did she reflect about taking and destroying guild banks in 2024 in her ponderings? Just curious.
Blizzard made 15 million on brutosaur, raised 2 million for a charity on a pet sale, and yet trolls post here that if everyone affected by this quits it will cripple blizzard. I suspect they are blizzard agents actually trying to get those affected to quit so it all can be quietly swept under the rug and this forum closed. I choose to stay and mention the guild bank fiasco at any opportunity till WoW shuts down after the last titan.
I choose to stay
…and pay
mention the guild bank fiasco
when this thread is cut loose, any mention of this issue will be ban worthy…so good luck with that
…and pay when this thread is cut loose, any mention of this issue will be ban worthy…so good luck with that
And pay just as you do, don’t pretend that none of your money goes to Microsoft while you use your computer to troll and try to get people to quit. Also how do you know Blizzards plan for when this forum is closed ?
And pay just as you do
that’s a negative,ghost rider…ive averaged 1 month sub per year last 4,5 years…
why would they close bug report? just this thread will be closed
I quit my sub back in October, and post on this a thread just fine complaining, while also not continuing to pay them any money.
I doubt it would phase them even if everyone affected quit, but continuing to pay them really does tell them it’s ok that they did what they did, but n my opinion, but everyone is dealing with this dumpster fire in their own way. Keeping paying them for a sub, claiming it’s to keep this issue alive, is just an excuse for feeding a wow addiction though lol.
