Expecting tech things to not do things that are common in tech…? Basically, yeah.
No one expected to lose items, but the whole “How can you allow these things to happen?! You have 20 years of experience yadda yadda” - that part is unreasonable. Not the frustration part. Those two are world’s apart.
Everyone knows about the bag situation and we have had it confirmed that how they coded the game has been odd at times. No I haven’t seen the code, but no one needs to have seen to understand that a 20+ year old program is going to have weird things in the code.
That still doesn’t mean that one has bought anything from the store with that. Gold is gold, regardless of whether it is from a token or otherwise. So they are still different.
My guild has received 0% restoration at this point. Some of the logs are back, but nothing has been sent to the guild leader. Years of items between my wife and I playing this game, gone.
I will give it a some time, as there were quite a few affected and I am assuming restoration might take time, but I am at this point not hopeful and expecting that 0% to continue.

Just got my first two items back. Generic ‘lost in the ether’ response. Blizzard watermark on the mail.
Absolutely this. THIS is why it’s infuriating. It’s not worth it to them. WE are not worth it to them.

Does anyone else think its funny that no streamer is talking about this.

They sort of just…dropped this response and retreated. Some may not even be aware of this yet.

I spent some time working as a developer in a “very large cloud provider,” and the amount and detail of stuff that was logged is stupefying.
It’s possible that Blizzard doesn’t have logs that enable them to reconstruct what happened, but I sort of doubt it. However, there would probably be terabytes and terabytes of logs (or much more) to analyze.
But I’ve personally analyzed terabytes and terabytes of logs before, so there is that.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find that the great majority of people affected by this problem did not know and will never know.

No surprise.
They don’t have GB’s or they will just ask their zombie viewers to farm/buy them more.

They are on the payroll. Can’t bite the hand that feeds!

OH WOW!!!
Did the company end up making things right for their customers? If so, despite whatever f*ups happened, that company is doing much better than Blizzard is. (I’d think with real money and probably better regulation in banking, they’d probably have to. Still, Blizzard is about bottom-of-the-barrel when it comes to taking care of customers at this point).

You can talk about expected results of messing with 20-year-old code all night but that’s not going to make anyone any less upset. Right now, all you are doing is throwing gasoline on a dumpster fire. It might be time for you to back out of this discussion. You are not helping.

It only affected branch tellers in this case, so no customer data was lost. Just the inconvenience of branches not having tellers for a week or so.
What they should do is check whatever prior save they have right before this happened (presuming they do have those… as many many folks have said, it’s hard to imagine a company like this would not have backups and redundancies to those backups as part of regular practice) and then just restore those guild banks as they were, without trying to cross reference what might have been taken out since or anything like that. Sure, some folks might reap some significant benefits from it, but it’s a far better idea than ticking off what could be a large portion of the playerbase (esp. with the warband bank issues on top of that). That would be far more fair than giving us other compensation or otherwise trying to do the whole thing half-baked. Admit fault, restore regardless of any potential duplications it might cause, and then make sure something like this doesn’t happen again. We shouldn’t have to pay the price, as it were, for what they’ve messed up.
Not that it’s likely to happen. But if I’d made such a mistake, I’d rather make it good despite any perceived cost to me versus passing that on to whomever was affected.

I’m assuming they haven’t finished sending out all the items yet, one of my guild bank alts hasn’t received any mail at all.
I ain’t the one spreading misinformation, nor defending folks who do.
Folks who on on purpose choose to be upset are always going to be upset. The best thing to do is to deconstruct their nonsense and explain how things actually work, whether that is logically or practical terms. But if me responding to bad faith actors makes you have this reaction…
Follow your own advice, for you for sure ain’t helping either.
Not going anywhere, thanks. Just don’t expect kind responses in return is all I’m saying now.

The post we all went to in the BUG REPORT that was never responded has 2.4k responses and over 36k thousand views. Over 500 individuals with over 800 effected banks contributed to it, commiserated and fumed. All while getting NO response from anyone at Blizzard.
MORE THAN 5 WEEKS OF NOTHING…
Now, after waiting 5+ weeks, your first communication is to tell us ‘thank you for your patience, your stuff is gone’. You mailed very few items back to us, many with all charges removed and BOP to the guild leader. They can’t even be used or put back in the bank. Meanwhile, all items other than mats and quest giving items are not returned. Letters from old guild members, etc.
First off:
You screwed up with substandard data processes. This amount of data loss without the ability to recover is dumbfounding.
Your resolution:
Returning a very few items with empty charges and making things that we had BOP from the mailbox, (so it can never be returned to the guild bank or useful) is just insulting.
Your message to us, only given after the crap fix:
“The rest is gone, sorry. Thanks for your patience.”

Why would I care whether folks are “kind” back to me…?
I care about what’s actually true and what is intellectually honest. Why should I care if someone spreading misinformation to continue randomly both hating folks and on folks think of someone else? Probably put me on ignore permanently if you think what I’m saying is that inflammatory.
Not even worth the ignore slot.
