As much as I would like to have hope for a CS ticket response that states
You have to consider that attempting to restore all affected items is of course their ultimate goal, yes, but based on the official blue OP, I don’t think that will be 100% possible.
OP: “Due to how some of the data was lost, we’ve reached a point where the result will be an incomplete restoration for some guilds, and we do not have a way to restore the remaining missing items for them.”
I am with you, though - whether it ultimately works or not, an official update would be great if they do anticipate the ability for total restorations. I fear I’ve lost communication hope at the very least, considering they found the issue within days but didn’t acknowledge players or their reports for nearly 5 weeks.
Logged and checked both my personal guilds again today…and nothing. Nothing restored. No in game mails.
Both are my own guilds, with my own characters. Two “matching” guilds - both on Dath’remar - one Alliance and one Horde.
And zip.
Given I’m in Australia and our consumer laws are slightly different for things “we pay for” (game tokens, game time etc),…I’m beginning to think what other avenues we have here to take this further. Because the lack of communication is ,…as we’ve all said,…shocking. Customer service? What customer service??
(There is even a seperate clause in the ToC’s relating to Australia consumer market. And Blizzard are not keeping to their clause.
In saying that,…it’s should just be the same for everyone - they should be doing things to keep the community going - people that have supported the game through the good and bad times,…for many years (from all the posts I’ve read everywhere).,…only to be treated like this now.
Zero blue posts in the US main forum of 2600+ posts before it was just closed off. And now a still going 2900+ strong posts here.
And all to be “swept under the mat” and forgotten about. /shakes head.
Oh,…also,…on reading about the "missing mount’ above,…and things changing going forward to other banks etc down the track. Also leaves a bad feeling that it could also go wrong and “bad luck”.
So I headed over to dataforazeroth webpage and downloaded a csv file of my mounts, pets, and toys. Might not help with anything - but given some of those are paid with real money,…if they disappeared would be another issue. Hope it never comes to that. But thought I might as well save it now,…just incase.
Really wish there were better channels to follow this up with. For everyone.
It’s just disappointing. They should be doing better for their customers.
Several months ago, a bunch of people reported that their Auspicious Arborwyrm mount went missing, myself included. I knew it was gone because I kept it on my bars and one day I log on and there’s an empty spot. It was no where to be found on the mount page. Blizzard responded right away and got those mounts restored. Could it be because it’s a shop mount?
Point is, mounts going missing has happened and it will probably happen again. If we let Blizzard get away with the missing guild vault items, then they’ll expect to get away with more and more.
I don’t think they said it would store MORE … just that it would be able to store the same, in a format similar to warband banks, ie, tabs rather than bags.
And they didn’t say that size would be available straight away without purchasing those tabs so, going on how they like to say stuff that is true, but not actually what we expect them to mean, I’d read this as “it will be the same size, IF you pay gold for those tabs”.
Agreed. The guild interface and virtually everything related to it is either bugged or not fit for purpose. Guild chat is always bugging out, slowing down or disconnecting, achievements are all over the place. Guild finder is bugged and the UI isn’t complete. The calendar is bugged and even if it wasn’t, isn’t fit for purpose. The guild roster is bugged. The guild vault … well, we can’t trust that anymore. The guild vault logs are bugged. It’s all just a bit run down, unloved and ignored.
Why not? They’ve literally wiped millions of gold/items worth gold out of guild vaults … so it’s not like they’re adding anything back that wasn’t there previously.
Possibly … a lot of people have also been reporting issues with the guild vault log for some time … months and months prior to this issue. Our own vault log is limping along but is incorrect … I can put an item in one tab and it won’t show … but then it will show if I move it to a different tab.
Same.
They’ve already confirmed they know which guilds were affected. So even if they don’t have information on WHAT went, they know WHO lost stuff. Even if they just had a rough estimate of the value overall, and sent that to the guilds, it would go some way towards compensation. It wouldn’t be good enough for somewho lost many high value items, and it would probably “over compensate” others … but doing nothing is just so bad.
It’s also worth noting … I’ve seen people talking about others receiving just a fraction of their stuff back. Whilst this is true, for some, for a lot of us we got nothing back. And some of those that did get SOMETHING back, the stuff they got wasn’t actually what they lost. Now I don’t know much about databases, or what happens when data is difficult to recover, but I’m fairly sure that, if the database broke, it wouldn’t switch one item for another. It would just end up showing gibberish?
Because raw gold does not equate to items from banks. Nor can they value those items. They’re also attempting to get the inflation of the economy back under better control, not inflate it more.
There are also a lot of items that are unobtainable that either existed purely for fun’s sake or uniqueness that cannot have a price put on them.
If I had to guess, there was some sort of “off the record” agreement between Blizzard/PR department and streamers in which streamers were told to keep quiet about this bug/not mention it
There is no way for us to prove this of course - and none of the streamers would admit it anyways (as they’re “in on” whatever coverup was agreed-upon) - but that’s my read of the situation
It’s only once regular/everyday players started “making enough noise” (on here and in other platforms like reddit) that they were “forced” to say something, some 5-6 weeks after the bug started - I don’t think they made this Blue post out of the kindness of their heart or because they care, if these guild bank complain posts did not “blow up” into megathreads I think they would’ve just continued ignoring/radio silence
A few people theorized that people who do a lot of streaming/videos would probably empty their guild vaults (if they had one at all) right before a new expansion so they could fill it with new stuff. This bug happened right before the expansion. So probably accidental good timing on their part and they just weren’t affected.
I’d like to think there isn’t some big conspiracy at play, it would feel like a double betrayal.
I wonder what the direct monetary value of all of it lost was? I mean if on average this ended up being just say 10k gold per person…which is pretty fair as many are claiming multi millions, I think that’s a decent way to look at it so…
10k * player base = total losss
player base = 7 million active players
so that works out to 70 billion gold
70 billion / cost of a token in usa is 200k
70,000,000,000 / 200,000 = 350,000 tokens
Each token is worth $20 so 350,000 * $20 is…7,000,000
That’s a pretty heavy loss. If it was 1k per it’s still 700k loss of money. This is not a small issue.
The reaction to this being done and no attempt at recompense is insane. The worth of the items has a real world value. The fact that we don’t even know how much was lost and that they are keeping such a tight lid on this tells you all you need to know about Blizzard.
Another week and still have only gotten 72 dragonflight mana pots out of tons of items gone. What bugs me over all this is other then making it known there is nothing we can do other then pray that Blizzard actually does something other then the silence treatment and a very poor “restoration” of lost items. If I can see a bank log posting years ago of an item that was put into my bank and an item taken out, then there should be logs that they seem to just not want to spend the time or effort to put into going through those logs. But say this was an Electric Company, a Gas Company, or something similar to those there would be court cases, lawsuits, and justice seen to all those effected by whatever those companies done. Yet if something similar happens to the whole wide world in a video game there’s like nothing we can do other then keep the awareness of it going and keep our voices heard in HOPES for something to actually happen. Sooner or later the bad PR for Blizzard will get to them over this. 1 angry customer equals to over a thousand customers not wanting to buy your product because that 1 angry customer told their experience to their friends and family which spreads to their friends and family and so on. Heck even I myself have told 10 people who don’t play WoW over this.
They really need to do better than this. The net result is just horrid customer service. Customer trust is gone for those affected and others that know about the issue.
I see more and more time played metrics changes incoming (new currencies, limited time fomos, etc) and a lack of any kind of empathy on the bugs they create means we are not going to see a reasonable level of customer service ever again.
And so… response is a shrug? Oops!
Is that sincerest 2024 business response? If i took my car in for an oil change and came to pick it up: the seats, steering and engine is stripped out and the dealership says “oops”…? They wouldn’t stay in business long.
“Mistakes have been made.” Ok… so fix it. You cannot, because you carelessly did not prep your sysyem BEFORE a major change? Ok…
So then what do you do? Hey I got it, why not ATTEMPT to act like a multi billon $ corporation and set things right with your customers? I have been told by casual raiders, “Who cares? It 's just pixels.” For us “lifers” playing all 20 years, collecting from day one, pathetic as it may be, it IS our life, our comfort… it was security in gathering… a home. So… solving, lets take the raiders view point “it’s just pixels”, so… just pixel tokens for each/tab and guild bank lost. Costs WOW ZIP<<< Would go a long way to restore faith in the game.
At the very least, WOW could and should return my prepaid subscription!
You know my response to this, we’ve had this discussion and I’m done w/your trolling.
You are on ignore. Congrats - you make #5 in the entire history of me playing WoW.
