Been there done that, its why my opinion is so strong here. Its why Grent is wrong. I would happily explain why a person is sitting and have happily had it explained to me.
I would have sat you for your god awful lazy mog.
For the third damn time that isnt my usual mog!
huh? I mean I feel sympathy for you, sitting sucks. Only thing I said to you was I thought this was too much, and kind of an overreaction from having to sit a single boss.
This isn’t your usual self.
You are usually strong and confident.
Let the other person tank this time.
Your time will come again. They will call you. You must be strong and ready to serve. You must be ready to answer the call, paladin.
But that is not why I am reacting that way. That is a false narrative. Are you paying attention at all my man?
I left cause the leadership is shoddy, if people wanna say it not then…that’s your prerogative.
I got upset cause [insert RL here] was being toxic and lieing.
Get it straight. He was being toxic, his friends were being toxic and then Grent felt he should try and embarass me in the guild based on [insert RL Here}'s lies.
I dunno man like I said he sat me on two bosses, and then again on inerva the next week. I didn’t try to argue it at the time, we talked about it all afterwards a couple days later, and he was pretty understanding and willing to listen even if he disagreed. From what I understand, the issue was another guild was contacting us to say you were trash talking our guild asking to join immediately, making these types of posts a few minutes after you got sat, and trying to demand an explanation right in the middle of the raid after you got sat. Just a little much man. No one wants to deal with all this. It seems emotionally immature.
I never once have trashed talked anyone. I already said this. That is drama queen lies. I said I left the guild based on a disagreement with the RL and that you guys dont do Mythic+ much.
And IMO, sitting me out of nowhere because the RL isnt ready and doesnt know the fight illicited a simple ‘why’ out of me.
Idk why you and Grent keep parroting this worthless comment of how he cant be asked to explain why I am being sat when his original comment to me was a question.
HE ASKED ME
“Do you mind sitting for this boss”
I did mind, so I asked why i would need to. His reasons following were complete nonsense.
Anyone telling you anything else is lieing. You are therefore only here to troll me. Go away and talk BS trash about me next wednesday if it makes you all feel better. But know this, its a pack of lies.
alright man, wish you the best, sorry it turned out like this.
You’re going to be kiting for roughly a minute and change the first time, and then when Stoneguard 3 drops down late into your 50-0 burn you’ll be kiting until the boss dies. Even with your two bursts of speed and an 8 second immunity you will not be able to create the gaps the three mobile tanks can create in a single Roll or Leap.
You will be dropping Angelic Feathers for your tank. You will drop Wind Rush for that tank. You will Roar for that tank. That tank will be using Gateway once per kite. That tank will be getting Life Gripped at specific times. But all those things aren’t enough if you don’t have huge burst mobility on top of it all.
And here’s the most important part: if you aren’t actively tanking you won’t likely have your Active Mitigation up when and if this thing closes the gap. Prot Paladins are notoriously squishy even by tank standards to make up for their extremely high DPS and their immunity; Warriors have better physical mitigation, DHs have a Cheat Death (or two if they’re running Splintered Heart), and Monks just naturally Stagger most of a single hit. And even these tanks are getting ragdolled by this thing.
If that Stoneguard closes the gap on you, you will not be able to negotiate with it outside of praying to God your Bubble can save you for eight seconds. This thing hits unbelievably hard.
Exhibit A: Here’s what happens when you’re caught with a gap in your active mitigation.

Exhibit B: When the kiting goes wrong and your Cheat Deaths/AM are all exhausted trying to stay alive, this is what the Stoneborn does to you.

I am likely lost a bit here, admittedly…you see my guild didnt let me get any pulls on this boss. lol
Is it designed this way or is this a work around? Are not some of these adds killed? How are they successfully tanked when they are killed? Is the answer never? Was this all not just nerfed into the dirt?
I get to guess?
Whoopie!
My guess is, the DH is dating the raid leader and the RL didn’t want to make them feel left out. Also they hate pink and said enough was enough! The DH went to tank spec by accident and they go with a FIFO system. Also, some reason, you can have too many tanks in the raid #BringBackTwilightDev
Oh and unrelated but your cutest druid doesn’t know how to count. Just thought I’d warn ya!
So basically, the Stoneguard becomes an extremely high-priority target that spawns at set intervals throughout Phase Three. As it lives and is able to melee a tank it gets stronger and stronger and stronger, and it quickly gets to the point where it’s hitting for enough damage to explode a tank through cooldowns.
However, all Stoneguards that are active when the boss hits 50% HP become dormant. They stop moving and attacking and can still be killed during the Danse Macabre, and this is when you ideally want to kill them.
“Why do this, though?” Well, to put it simply, if you want to kill them you have to single-target them down. That’s damage you could be doing to Niklaus or the Attendants that are rapid-fire spawning by this point. Every point of damage counts here because the fight becomes absolutely overwhelming by the time you’re dealing with 30+ waiters, 7+ stacks of the DoT, Dark Recitals, interrupts, getting knocked back when a new Stoneborn spawns, and the like.
So most guilds opted to emulate what Limit did, which is using every tool possible to kite the Stoneguard. As long as the Stoneguard is unable to melee something, it cannot get stacks and thus cannot 1shot tanks. This nets you a ton of extra boss and Attendant damage when it’s needed the most.
As for why a mobile tank is needed? Well, the huge AoE damage going on throughout the fight gets shrugged off by tanks and if the Stoneguard does happen to get in range once or twice the tank won’t get 1shot by it outright and healing aggro won’t make it beeline for and promptly instantly kill a healer.
Are they though? Basically every experienced raider in this thread knows that being sat if your spec/class sucks on a fight is perfectly normal.
Sure you can count people who know nothing about raiding as “being on your side”, but why would you?
Wait. A SINGLE boss?
And they’re coming to the forums about it?
Idk how many times I need to repeat myself, but this is NOT why I am upset. Pls read through. I am upset cause the RL is incompetent and after the fact got toxic. I wanna leave that is my business. I can leave cause its the full moon if I want. That’s irrelevant. If we are weighing why I was upset and its legitimacy then ask if the way I was sat was the greatest.
PoV of a Brewmaster Monk kiting this so you can have a general idea of what this looks like in practice. This thing messes you up once it gets in.
I can’t pay attention…I’m too in love with the warlock portals.
Also, the gargoyle is essentially the swiggity swooter comin’ for your booty.
I mean, what is the issue here? Since the beginning of the game people have been sat for others at the high end. Don’t be in a High End guild if you aren’t willing to sit. I’m sure your guildies love that you’re on the forums whining about it instead of being okay with helping out the team. /s
The first thing max says in his explanation video is that tank composition does not matter on this fight. Can you explain this discrepancy to me?
If you’re kiting the Stoneguard the tank comp matters, but now that gear’s better actually killing the thing isn’t too out of one’s reach. It’s entirely possible to kill the Stoneguard and still have the DPS required to kill the boss, but that’s dependent upon a lot of factors including Attendant damage, DPS comp, how much burst you have, etc.
Blood DK+Prot Paladin is a messy comp simply because it’s both uncommon and has to do the kill strat instead of the kite strat, but both tanks are extremely prone to getting spiked. So your DPS would need to make up the difference.
