Hi, so this is more of a serious topic, a friend of mine has been sexually harassed by a grown adult who has been grooming her. she is a minor (16). He has asked her to meet up at Blizzcon, sent gifts, and gradually brought up sexual topics. This adult has called my friend cute when she sent a photo of herself(nothing inappropriate just her face), and has said inappropriate things in game. I cannot go into much detail about the sexual topics this man has brought up due to the restrictions on the forums, I was wondering what Blizzard can do about this. If I am not wrong, I am pretty sure Blizzard has access to chatlogs and skim through and determine what action should be in place.
Blizzard will be able to investigate, but only when they’re in communication with the affected party, not on a third party’s behalf, and only with what interaction happens on their platform.
Your friend needs to put that person on ignore, immediately cut all contact, and then report any and all instances of them attempting to circumvent that ignore under Ongoing Harrassment so that Blizzard can build a case with which to take indisputable action.
They also need to contact the proper authorities. Such as the FBI if she is located in the US and they would cover this since I am sure they both do not both live in the same state. The FBI or the local or state police would be able to get this information.
Note blizzard can only access what happens in game. They can not see what happens on discord.
Is this friend going with others? Never go without someone you know and trust to a convention.
I definitely concur that your friend should contact the authorities directly on this. I’d even encourage your friend to discuss this matter with a guardian.
