It will never end. It will require actual policing and enforcement from blizzard, which means more resources. It’s a fad that a small and rapidly diminishing population are obsessed with that will only end up costing them more money in the end.

This is literally the third time HC has been popular and this is arguably the biggest time.
The first road to rag in SOM had players but they diminished as fast as SOM did. The second was months ago with each zone filled.
This last week has zones overflowing. Sure people will leave, i mean its wow 20 years later, every version of this game lowers to a more stable population, but, to call it what you called it is pure ignorance. You actually have no idea what youre talking about and are just saying words that come to your head on a whim. It may not stay massive, but HC is actually here to stay.

We have the data from SOM 1. I like HC but I would imagine its servers die off much faster than som did. Many people kind of see it having a short shelf life for most players.

What an absolute JOKE. If an NPC or a player is killable than it will be killed as many times as I see fit. If killing killable targets is against ToS then make them unkillable, otherwise it is BLIZZARDS problem and not the player.
