Don’t expect any help from the idiots at Blizz. They will tell you to “Get help from other players in the zone” instead of trying to make the game better. And you wonder why this game keeps shrinking instead of growing.
If you are leveling Horde - start in Ghostlands to level. I’ve done that a few times in warmode and yet to see an Alliance there. If you are Alliance, go to Bloodmyst Isle for the same thing.
After that… it’s hit or miss depending on your shard. Avoid STV at all costs though and Redridge.

I’ll admit it sucked being ganked in Darkshire on my ally alt last week. That is unfortunately the risk of war mode and we know that when we select it. War mode is optional. Although it sucks that 120 people kill us, isn’t it our own faults for entering an optional mode to begin with?
We can’t fly in those BC starting zones, right? And it’s so inconvenient to reach even for their faction sometimes. No wonder it’s safe.
I recently leveled some lowbie alts in war mode. Got ganked a few times and just turned off warmode.
What on Earth are you talking about?
Blizzard REMOVED PvP servers – MY servers to get rid of this supposed problem.
You literally have to put yourself there and accept the face smashing after signing the equivalent of a waiver now.
What the actual crap? Do you expect a GM to walk around and act as your bodyguard or something?
I can empathize with the frustration, but I approach warmode as an optional form of gameplay. It has inherent risks and each player needs to balance those. I don’t know how you improve this system without compromising the premise: opt-in WPvP.
One thought, albeit shot from the proverbial hip:
If you give WPVP a “determination”-like buff (increasing when killed by someone X levels above you), it would mean that the ganked person could “farm” these deaths, and then go dominate same-level players.
I just don’t see the negatives of a voluntary system that allows you to face defeat amidst other PCs.
I wouldn’t state that it’s “your fault” that you were ganked, but more so it was your understanding that such an event could occur. Regardless of my semantics, You have a very grounded outlook, I think.
Edit to add: I write the above with respect. No offense or snark intended.
you can’t fly below 60 no matter which zone you’re in…
I think the system they have right now regarding bounties and assassins is intended to encourage 120 people to stick to current content zones and pvp there. Even with the incentives, we’ll always see 120s ganking lowbies. We just gotta sigh, click war mode off and keep moving forward.
True but 120s presumably fly around looking for lowbies to gank, hence BC starting zones being safe for war mode lowbies.
This is actually what got me started in PvP, going to Darkshire 12 years ago and smacking lowbies at the behest of the guild I had just joined, heck I was a lowbie myself, and it wasn’t too long before some 70’s would show up and swat me away like fly.
But damn the fun was real, talk about a nostalgia trip, I miss those days sooo much!
Have a great evening!
/cheers
PVP happened when flagged for PVP? What the hell man? When did this start?
Getting corpse camped by max level players was always part of the charm of leveling on a PVP server. This has been the case since the first character hit 60 on the first server.
There is a solution for you, and it’s much simpler than it used to be, just turn it off until they leave.
That’s a good observation. I had neglected that aspect of warmode
I never ganked nor did I engage first. I did like PVP realms though - I played Venture Co (RPPVP) from spring 2009 until August 2017 (was population: dead, unfortunately, well for me). It was always fun and exciting trying to stay alive, but it also felt much more organic and lore appropriate.
Especially cool was when I ran into a Horde character and they wouldn’t annihilate me but instead help defeat an elite or some such.
Using just emotes or “body” language to communicate.
Thanks! It doesn’t read as snarky at all. We definitely turn on war mode knowing we might get our butts smashed in.
How about just a simple restriction that prevents anyone from ganking anyone 10 levels below you? I can’t see anything negative about trying to ensure competition for warmode. I think it would make it more fun for everyone. Fun is the operative word; encourage open world pvp but make it competitive so everyone can enjoy it.
Interestingly with the level squish, I wonder if the power-differential won’t be so great anymore that - in essence - this may occur? Well, I mean that things ten levels above you may not be a sure smackdown. That doesn’t address your point.
My only rebuttal, and perhaps it’s not a good or logical one, is that throttling / governing the level range for WPvP might also mean that high characters couldn’t group with low, because then they could heal them and help the lowbie out during WPVP engagements and would the game be able to tell when a 60 heals a 30 that is fighting a 20? Or when a 60 heals a 30 that is fighting a 40?
Also, it would feel less organic if there were limitations on it.
I’d rather they just level sync people to the areas they’re in when flagged for PVP.
Are you serious?
It’s a toggle that defaults to OFF and the op turned it ON. Just turn WM off
