Greatest day for WoW history

It reminded of a Star Wars line…This will be a day long remembered, it has seen the last of Kenobi(CEO/Activision) and will soon see the end of the Rebellion(Ion).

After seeing what happened to ESO and fallout 76, wow will become an online store with a game tacted on thats it

That’s because both of them can be played for free. Atleast ESO I think

Wow will still have subscription so…maybe they might not go that extreme

I mean cool but, whats that gonna do for people who dont like the games currently? Odds are the games are going to be more or less the same as if the purchase hadn’t happened.

Agreed.

MS is about propping up franchises. Although Activision did a good job with their titles while BlizZard neglected their IPs.

This post will be hilarious if WoW switches to BTP or FTP once the merger is complete

ESO is BTP that has a sub for perks system

WoW for me became Fremium aka F2P long ago. Just with a different coat of paint.

So that is cool with me!

The original point of the sub was to reward veteran players sticking with the game. But that concept is long gone!

So yeah bring on a true F2P experience because the current freemium experience tries to play in both sand boxes of B2P and F2P. And that doesn’t work!

I disagree with this assessment. WoW still provides a majority of its content in-game and has very little in its stores compared to its competitors.

Once it goes FTP/F2P, the primary focus will switch to store sells instead of box or sub sells…which means you will likely never get anything you asked for in your OP because there is no financial incentive for the company

I had this discussion with another long time MMORPG veteran and that person agreed with me that WoW passed that F2P Rubicon a long time ago.

Buying gear with real money became so evident with BFA and the current expansion because of how layered the systems became. The current design model of having to do so much on a main is very reminiscent of the Korean MMORPG model or other Asian MMORPGs.

Currently BlizZard business model is based on services, store cosmetics, and mount bundle sales. Meanwhile expansion box sales/subs has been a lesser emphasis for a while over there.

I’m going to guess you mean P2W or pay to win.

I don’t think there is a reasonable way to debate that the game you are paying to play has passed any Free to Play threshold

The 2 industry leaders (FF14/WoW) are both using the same business model currently. There is an obvious difference between what they offer vs F2P games, so I’m not sure what Rubicon you are referencing

Token sales and services doesn’t drive FF like it does WoW. So they are very different at this point.

Box sales is still a point of emphasis for FF as well as subs. Not so much for WoW because FF is what WoW used to be when you paid a sub.

WoW should have put a tighter lid on the token to preserve the P2P subscription legacy it once had. But it is gone now and the box can’t be closed now for WoW.

OP you came back to WoW only to realize nothing changes till next year

Either way you’ll be ready to bash Microsoft and Phil when wow doesn’t improve, general discussion is gullible

I hope it does I dont want to have to get a Game Pass from Microsoft. Its fine the way it is…unless the pass is cheaper than Ill be fine with it.

=)

Hey superman long time no see.

Actually changes will happen sooner than you think. The finalization of the deal will take a while which is probably more than a year out. But when that type of money is thrown around changes will happen behind the scenes to help bring on the finalization of the deal.

The optimism in the WoW community is palpable, and that’s a good thing.

I think the best thing the news has done really has been instill a sense of optimism again in the player base that the game we love can find its stride again.
