Grandson's New PC

His parent gifted him an entry level pre-built. AMD 5700G no dedicated graphics. 16 GB ram on one stick. Unknown 550W PSU.

I have An old MSI Armour MK-2 570 Graphics card and two 8GB sticks DDR4 that I could slot in for him.
I already gifted them an old Samsung monitor that I had shelved that may be about 10 years old.

I am certain the two matched sticks will be an upgrade. Eliminating the single stick. I am wondering if the graphics card will be an upgrade over the integrated GPU.

Thanks for any input.

Gpuwise it’ll be an upgrade

Ram wise it will be marginal especially since we don’t know the ram speeds. Assuming you are adding more ram to it.

Just about any dedicated GPU is better than an igpu for numerous reasons including but not limited to better use of system resources and CPU temps/heat dispersion. Any CPU using an iGPU will run hotter. Plain and simple

This is the ram I have available CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3200MHz CL16-18-18-36 1.35V Intel AMD Desktop Computer Memory - Black.

Speed is the same I don’t know the timings of the single stick though

Going to dual channel RAM vs single channel will always be an upgrade. Even if you’re keeping the total amount the same. 16 vs 2x8

Thanks for your conformations.
I was sure the ram would be an upgrade. The Discrete GPU was the main question. The card is like 4 generations old by now. I was not sure how far along integrated graphics had come. Heck I remember when the MB’s had imbedded graphics.

Integrated graphics have come a long way but even that GPU will be at least 2x more powerful than the iGPU, maybe more.
