Went 34-0 with an affliction lock.
He was tripling their dps every game, and often 2v1’d the team if I died early. I had a 96 ilvl.
I understand it’s prepatch, but affliction just got buffed again, and I had been considering maining one but now I’m scared to because of how strong they are right now.
In my experience, overtuned classes early on get waxed by the nerfbat and then are weak AF for months. What do you guys think? Affi an unsafe main?
My alternative main is spriest. And I also raid!
If bfa is any indication I think they don’t really mind warlock being strong and remaining strong
I’d say lock is a safe pick

Affliction is absolutely insane. I was playing against Aff/Ele/Rdruid as Ret/Surv/MW around 2350 mmr last night and the Aff alone was doing more damage than the entire arena combined.
We still won every game except one where the Ele legit oneshot me, but only because their “Gladiator” rdruid had no idea how to heal or something. If they had a competent healer we would have lost every single match
1 lock spec is always strong. Play lock but be prepared to switch specs just in case.

idk they do a lot of damage but they’re squishy and only have to worry about their one school.
was playing dps/healer 2s in 2400-2600 area all day yesterday and the few times we queued into an afflic lock we won, meanwhile when i played against this one destro/rdruid team it was always 50/50, and then 100% kept losing to nozom on his destro. Destro is way worse than afflic. its stronger, does a ton of damage even without chaos bolt, tankier, multiple spell schools, and if they do get bolts off lol good luck
Heard they just flop over on the beta.

Everyone say it with me:
Prepatch PvP and mmr are completely broken, none of that is really indicative of what balance is going to be like at 60 in shadowlands

I wish I could read; I’d say it with you

affliction is also super broken on 60 lmao
Affliction also just got a buff to demon armor, back at 150%
Would be great if that wasn’t the case. PvP would thrive and be exciting if locks are mediocre. Lets throw boring Rogue/Mage in there too. SL should be the expansion of high skilled exciting Turbo Comps

Aff is mostly just good in 2s
They’re a lot weaker in 3s
Pmuch all you need to really know, almost any melee will crush aff teams, they don’t really have the control or the tools to be able to cast as much as they need in my experience, plus there’s so many ways to actually just remove their dots and such

dilly hasn’t seen shadowplay on beta yet
Don’t see how that’s going to change any possible opinion I have on aff, shadowplay has always been notoriously weak vs any team with a melee, and I don’t see that changing whatsoever
There’s no real reason a shadowpriest is more useful to a warlock than other classes that can peel better for them vs melee comps
currently on beta you just get yoinked if u dare to get into LoS of these both casters and it’s not like aff is weak defensively against melees, they can port and have a perma slow + soullech/gate/150% armor/SP offheals and peels
The only comb double melee wise maybe having success is TSG or at a bare minimum WWDK, everything else gets blasted in LoS pretty much
Ya I’d really like to see a competent melee/caster or double melee or hunter comp struggling vs an an aff lock
Shadowpriest is doung their thing no matter what, their damage isn’t very preventable but warlock pressure relies way more off of finding time to hardcast so I don’t see a shadowpriest enabling them much
Also if you have an Rsham healing you that just seems like an extra benefit/way to prevent their damage
I don’t think there has ever been an xpac where locks weren’t completely dominant in the last half
sometimes earlier

That goes to mage too, all 3 DPS spec classes have at least one viable spec in every patch
