Funny, I haven’t even gotten a single channel invite or spam for it. Sounds like you’re on a customer list or something, maybe stop buying gold?
Or your on a dead server thats not worth their time?
Except I’m on Herod, stop buying gold kid.
Uhhh huh, uhhh huh.
Yeah, typical. You’re wrong on your first insinuation and now you’re resorting to nothings because that’s exactly what you are - a do nothing gold buyer.
Follow these instructions:
- Open settings
- Open Interface Options
- Click ‘Game’ tab
- Click ‘Social’ settings
- Check ‘Block Chat Channel Invites’
- Click ‘Okay’ button
Utilizing custom channels is fine. What I see no point of is the invite feature.
He learned from the gold spammers.
Follow these instructions:
- Actually read thread
- Consider whether your reply is relevant
- If 1 & 2 are cool, then go ahead and post a response
Followed instruction to the letter. Easy.
Best solution is probably to follow Hammis instructions and block channel invites.
Are you certain of that?
I mean, it is the first sentence in the first post of the thread.
Agree.
Disagree. If I can’t see the Spammers, I can’t report them.
I wonder why would someone suggest it then?
This might be crazy talk but bear with me: I actually use zone chat to talk to people. And they talk back! Amazing! And then there’s more people talking in guild chat …
It’s nuts. It’s almost like chat channels were made for … chatting.
Caveat: I’m on an RP server so you’re experience with chat might be different than mine.
I block the invite but I still want the chat notification. Why? Because most of these gold sellers are using compromised wow accounts. I report all gold seller invites I see because it allows blizzard to de-activate the compromised account until it is re-secured by the owner. The more players that report these I think the faster blizzard will take action. The fewer the compromised accounts the better.
Haha,
I gave those instruction because this thread is essentially pointless. Thought I’d add some useful info for those that might not know how to block the invites.
I like this too.
I want to still see the spammers so I can report them.
Much of the spam is likely from compromised/hacked accounts. You aren’t flagging the spammers, just some account they have access too, they aren’t paying a sub themselves to spam.
It is best to flag them so they can be shutdown.
You beat me to it Bitcaster.
They should block every channel with the word gold or any other word meaning currency.
Gonna help you out.
- Right click general chat tab.
- Settings.
- Other.
- 2nd column, Chat Channel changes check box, turn off.
- Profit.
The only downside is you won’t see channel changes when changing zones and the like. However, that is a small price to pay to never see gold seller invite spam.
What about roses? Or the letter ‘g’.
Example:
20__GEE__for__FIVE UxxxSxxxD at W;'O;'W.;.;'G.;.;O.;.;L.;.;.D.;.;.;.C;,;,;O;,;,M
Easier just to let the players flag stuff. A human will see the pattern better than any algorithm a team of programs will come up with. I mean the reason you get garbled messages like that is because the spammers know your brain will decode it.
Unless Blizzard start doing some deep learning AI, then a spammer will always be a step ahead of the filter. But… do you really expect them to invest that much into it?
Heck, the spammers probably have a deep learning ai to get around filters. It is a war.
