I’ve never had good luck in the transmog game but it can slowly add up. Just doing the weekly quest last week plus the nearby gold WQs netted me ~9500g / toon for less than 45minutes per. Not counting the paragon rep rewards. Got several gear upgrades and 2 bullion apiece. I was going to do the weekly anyways so it’s what essentially passive farming. Over 10+toons it ads up. Best g/hour I’ve been able to come up with so far. Losing the phone app has cost me about 8k a day I used to get from my garrisons and sanctums so WQs will be it from now on. 
dragonriding world quests make 500g each. you can do them on all your toons.
you can make 10k-12k an hour
P.S. Stop spending money on transmog 
get the ethereal transmog vendor with your monthly tender. do it now
The best long term solution, and mostly passive at that, is to do old content.
Especially now since you can learn BoP items for transmog which is cool, take your main, or your farming character through every dungeon and raid in the entire game. We have a few weeks until TWW so this makes sense to do now. Keep everything you get that’s worth over 500g on the AH (Use TSM for prices). Start to gather items to list for transmog every 2 days.
This accomplishes many things: Transmog for yourself and your alts. Transmog and patterns/recipes that are worth a ton on the AH, this is the long term strat. Passive gold you get, vendoring gear, greens, junk items on your journey.
The only hitch to this is that it might take a while to sell your items, but this is the process. I am cycling 200-300 items on the AH every 2 days and relisting them. Some days I get nothing, some days I get an item that sells for 150k.
Give it a shot! It’s also kinda fun playing through all the old stuff!

Heya. A good way to make gold is using the frozen orb flip method. Google it, but tldr is yoi buy frozen orbs from AH then hand thrm in for eternal X. Then sell these on AH for a profit. Lots of fun and easy gold between queues. Best i made was 70k in one day over a long play session between arena queues.

Mostly, I just play the game and vendor everything I pick up. Heck, there is generally more than 5K gold worth of world quests up twice a week. I am not the richest but do have 5 million gold across my characters.

You still have to pay for transmog though even using this toy. All this is, is another way to access a transmogrifier.

yea, but when you use the ethereal you kind of feel like your giving a pal some money. It stings less. He’s on hard times. The little bit I donate helps. and it costs less than a cup of coffee in the UC.

Other than a few mats, i am not making gold on the AH. WQ give some gold. For me, crafting is a gold sink. You can see what sells for significant gold and then see if you can farm it.
Transmogs are free for everyone during Trial of Style.

Sometimes. Sometimes you can buy items on the auction house and sell them to vendors for a profit.
Personally, I think that it is a kind of trap to try to make gold in game to pay for the game. The fifteen-dollar subscription is one trip to a fast-food place. I’m saying that the cost is not onerous.
When it became possible to buy it with in-game gold, I heard people vow that they will never pay again! And those people are endlessly farming ore and herbs for hours to make the goal. The saddest that I ever saw was the five-player multi-boxer collecting herbs during Shadowlands. Like I said, I think that it is a kind of trap.
