Going for Loremaster/Explorer (Fresh Character) Any Tips/Tricks?

Yes! They put it in game specifically for people who wanted to do Loremaster and old quest lines for transmog.

Easy to get in most main main cities. One hit and then you can use whatever the quest spell or item is on the mob.

A person can buy this on the main char then learn it to the toybox so every char will have access to it.

cries I remember those… It was good to have a guild.

Or do Loremaster in chromie time and all scales to you. Not only a big help with “lower the health” quests but also keeps all the content fun instead of a one shot fest.

I have not tested it with Chromie time so I will trust you
My 2020 goal was to go back and do the base continent quests that were re-set on me during Cata. I had done part of them, but not all of them so had to start over on both eastern and western continents. ARGH. Sword was my friend. I FINALLY got my Loremaster last Feb I think.

To add to that, for all who wants to play the game in chromie time. Beware, once you reach 48, do not attempt to get out of CT if you plan to use it till you ding lv50, it will be lockouted for your character and Chromie will point you to the Frozen Throne for SL content once you hit 48 and are out of Chromie Time.

True but i attempted to do loremaster a couple years ago and some zones like Shadowmoon Valley in TBC we’re rough to do on level with certain classes.

there will come a point where your brain just goes on autopilot and follows the quests from dot-to-dot on the map.
…some of the quests have items which you will need to use, disguises and such, and if you’re not paying attention you’ll wonder why the quest isn’t working.

also make sure you loot everything you kill, some zones will have drops with “this item begins a quest” which are needed for completion

Yes! I’ve almost done it on two accounts but this one isn’t finished yet. A gigantic help I found this time was loremaster + lightheaded addons. (It doesn’t seem to be working for me right now) since a recent update, BUT:

The thing you’ll be doing most when getting loremaster: looking up wowhead comments because some quests don’t properly tell you where to go or what to do. Trust me, some are awful.

The addons make it so when you click on quest in your log, it opens a small window showing wowhead comments without you needing to google the quest!!! It is A GODSEND.

There are so many small issues you would never guess like “if you pick up these 2 quests you can’t see the questgiver until you do the other one” or “the npc you need is in a different area than what the map says”.

Also one of those addons marks EVERY spot on the map you need to fly to, to unlock the explorer achievement, so you don’t need to google the coordinates each time.

Most you can do yourself but there are some where it looks like you explored it but you need to walk to a specific spot. It is a massive quality of life improvement.

Again, these addons stopped working in SL for me and I assume I need to download a beta version or something specific.

Good luck! Also make sure you follow the chapters and don’t get stuck doing useless quest chaind that lead nowhere (like in area 52 oh my god).

Ah good call. I forgot to mention that. At 48 the quest to go to Shadowlands pops for you even in Chromie Time. At that point you can’t skip around CT time lines as you will be locked out when you leave the time line you’re in.

This happened to the first character I did this with. So created another and decided to lock once the 45 talent tier opened.

I’ve been having a blast with chromie time when I don’t feel like doing anything current.

OH definitely. I really meant just where a foam sword would be needed. There are definitely quests out there that will be a problem cause they require 3-5 people and can’t be solo’d at level.

I usually get excited for these challenging quests, I am glad I play a dps/tank class that I can solo most of these. Some of them are still very hard to do on your own, like the blood ring quest in Nagrand, Outland. I have to prep some potions, gear up by grinding LFG, ask randoms for buffs and buy gems.

It’s a lot of extra work than just outlevel it then return, but this makes the game more fun to me.

Well here’s what I did with Zuluhed the Whacked.

First I gave it a shot solo. I had a flask on, food buff, prepot, and drums lol! Got him to 75% and even that was rough. I’m fury btw.

So next I got a group going. Actually family but that’s a story for another time. I invite them to group, I party sync, we pull and have a blast just doing this 14-15 yr old zone elite. However, I wasn’t getting credit for the kill and he wasn’t dropping the quest item for me >.< I’m guessing cause the other 4 were all 60 sync’d to me and scaled to 50.

Next, stepped out of CT. Had a family member one shot him, kill counted, I got the item, move on lol!!

You’re right though it was funny having the challenge. Many of the more recent “requires three”, “requires five” quests can be done with ease by two. The older ones seem to meant it more lol!!

AWESOME! I’m excited for you, OP, and others that are diving into the amazing journey that is Loremaster! (And Explorer, of course, lol)

I recently did the Loremaster journey on this Mage, and loved it! LOVED IT!

It was so incredibly fun going through the world, re-living all of the fun stories and seeing all of the various characters… and omg, the mass volume of toys, pets, and mounts you get along the way. O_O

Several folks have posted a lot of good tips already, but here’s a few additional nuances to consider regarding completing these achievements:

  • For some folks (myself included), the Soft Foam Sword still 1-shots mobs (I’m still not sure why), however, I discovered that getting the Darkmoon Sword from the Darkmoon Faire works the same way. Unfortunately it IS an item to carry in the bag, however, I’m a big fan of using macro’s so I wound up liking it more rather than having to use the toy in an awkward manner, lol (and to note, there’s usually at least 1 quest per zone that requires a foam sword, FYI)
  • The Easter Kingdoms and Kalimdor are by far the biggest continents, so it’s strongly recommended to hit a pace of doing a zone or two at a time, otherwise if you try to push too far too fast you can burn yourself out really quickly. Otherwise they’re probably also the most straightforward to complete and super fun!
  • However, one thing that’s really different about those early quests is that they frequently don’t have pointers to quest objectives like most current quests do, so do try to read your quests before heading out otherwise you could waste a lot of time due to simple misunderstandings (I maaaaaay have done this once or twice, lol)
  • Loot everything! I lost count of the zones which had quest starting items on dead mobs, and twice I completely missed a step to a quest chain because I was rushing through a section and neglected to loot a couple of mobs, which then required backtracking / doing research to figure out what I missed
  • Most zones have a progression to them, so when you figure out where you’re starting and the path you’re going to follow, it’s handy using your hearthstone to save your spot as you progress, or more importantly to central locations of a zone (because many zones require running back and forth a LOT)
  • Keep in mind that sometimes necessary quests are given by folks that have blue exclamation points over their heads; most of the time the yellow one will show instead, but there are several where the blue shows instead, making it seem like they don’t have a required quest when in reality they do (there’s one in TBD Nagrand that had me scratching my head for half an hour until I figured that out)
  • In regards to TBC, while there’s fewer zones than the OG continents, they make up for it with sheer volume of quests
  • On top of that, many of the quests require killing lots of mobs with slow respawn rates and with low drop rates (so expect to do a lot of running around for funnies)
  • Wrath of the Lich King is AMAZING. Take your time, soak in the ambiance, and enjoy the ride.
  • Pandaria is almost equally amazing! But be warned, since Blizz removed the Legendary Cape quest line, the flow of the story feels disjointed. It’s rather… unfortunate.
  • Same thing with WoD since the Legendary Ring quest line has been removed.

And when you get close to the end… really savor it.

I won’t ever forget getting to that last zone… then that last story line… then that last quest… and then…

BAM!

ACHIEVEMENT EXPLOSION!!!

Seriously, when I completed it I must have had 7-8 achievements all pop up at the same time, and it was fantastic. I will remember that moment forever.

I’m sure there’s more, but I’m rambling at this point…

Happy Adventuring!!!

Is raid content necessary to get Loremaster nowadays? Wasn’t when I got Loremaster.

To OP, if you want to do it efficiently, you’ll probably need Icy-Veins or Wowhead up to track quest chains. There are a couple of addons that also do that.

Otoh, if you want to do it in tourist mode while leveling (more fun), you can free form it but your journey will be a long one.

I was going to complete all the classic zones first but someone told me MOP timewalking starts today and with that comes 50% rep bonus apparently so it looks like i’ll be doing MOP completion starting after reset.

You can do loremaster with multiple characters, because it’s a “per achievement” meta, meaning you can just level a character through a certain set of zones, then level another through a different route.

That’s how I got mine. It’s much easier, AND you actually get a few characters to boot.

It’s easier to get Loremaster if you have flying.

There are some quests that require grouping. Here are the three I remembered:

Divination: Gorefiend’s Truncheon (2 players)
The Cipher of Damnation - Borak’s Charge (4 players)
Wanted: Uvuros, Scourge of Shadowmoon (4 players)

Not all who wander are lost

For reference, where is this reported?

(P.S. If you do not own Shadowlands, it works as originally reported, level 50 and then kicked. I just tested this on this level 49 character and she can Chromie time all she wants!)
