Let’s just say that illustrates the issues I’d prefer to see fixed, rather than compartmentalizing the solution by creating a “recap questline” to sum it up.
The book comparison… eh, that’s a bit tough.
If we assume you’re not referring to key events occuring in books outside the game (a really bad habit for WoW), and everything is contained within the game proper?
There is some value in saying that every major story arc, or anything that will act as a potential entry point, should be able to stand on its own. Narratively-speaking.
But I feel that should be bigger and more cohesive than you’re implying - entire expansions, including the patch-cycle content. A story spanning multiple expansions is fine by me, so long as it remains fully accessible.
But as mentioned before, I’m aware that I’m holding WoW to a higher standard than its past work. And one of criticisms for TWW in particular is that the narrative feels SHORT and incomplete. So I’m wary of anything that comes across as further condensing when expansion is what I feel is needed.
I suppose it’s all relative.
WoW’s narrative and lore is more of a “light snack” to me, often leaving me wondering where the rest of it is.
I am looking forward to this as well. Anyone know how many levels can be gained with a level 10 character if all three stories are completed? I see this as an interesting way to level especially for brand new players or someone maybe coming back to WoW after being away for a good bit and wanting to create a new toon. Or someone like me who has only ever played Alliance and want to dabble around with a Horde toon.
I’ve tried it out in the PTR and there were some issues with the Ethereals one when you got to the Brokers part and had to take Cho’s serpent Mishi (I think) back to Oribos to catch the barge to Taza’vesh and would not get credit for using him for part of a quest.
That issue appears to be fixed .
Another problem I noticed is during the Lich King Story line primarily in the Halls of reflection part the npcs seem to hit harder then they would their open world counter parts . Another thing is during the escape Jaina is given very little health that if running as a class without any healing spells it is hard to make it through without her dying .
Hopefully they will fix this or give the option of doing it like solo dungeons and solo run Dastardly Duos where you get the folower dungeon group . Maybe even make it a thing where people can group up and do it .
Thanks for the clarification. I also saw this in the battlenet launcher, assumed it was already in game, and have spent several minutes trying to locate Lorewalker Cho.
This. there is so much content out there, new players miss. Wow is so vast and yet there is always a rush to the end. retail needs to figure out a better way. incentive to play the old content and explore the world more. it’s kind of frustrating.
Ohhhkaaay…So I see this maybe good for new players to catch up on lore etc etc, but why on earth would a 20 yr player bother with this? With so much to do and so much being thrown at us now with events, fast patch cadence etc etc, I don’t see how I could even work this in. When 11.1.5 hit I just couldn’t get into it. I’ve been on a 2 week break so far. Horrific Visions - been there done that. Another scenario with Nightfall? Been there done that somewhere along the line too. Idk WoW has always recycled things but now it’s like they want us to “revisit” or play old content but isn’t that was Classic is for? I don’t play classic wow because I did it already starting in May of 2005 but now in retail they just offer more old content to relive…I don’t get it.
With my lvl 73 Blood DK, I couldn’t do enough DPS to burn down the adds quick enough in the Halls of Reflection portion, let alone the bosses. The mobs couldn’t do enough damage to hurt me but once the healers spawned I couldn’t get past the mob heals and interrupts that were incoming and I was stuck. They need to work on the health scaling of the mobs or don’t do this as a 73 Blood DK, or wait until 79 maybe so you still get the XP.
Because I like the lore, and I’m lousy at keeping up on it since WoW scatters it hither and yon among quests, dungeons, zones, etc.
Having a nice, linear summary of major lore events is going to be nice.
As for the current content, meh, there’s simply not that much there for me. Didn’t care much for Undermine, I still don’t like delves, all I’m doing to grinding stuff to get gear I have no need for that they’ll hand me on a platter when 11.2 drops anyway, so…
Looking forward to this, but if HoR is bugged, guess I’ll wait a week.
And…yet again Blizzard hasn’t learned the lesson about open world new content.
We all know there are a group of people who get their kicks out of making things difficult for others by dropping toys, increasing their size so they can completely block everyone else from trying to do anything.
It should be a standard practice to put a no mount, not toy drop zone around any quest npc so people can’t mount or use any type of toy of buff that can prevent others from enjoying their game time and trying to complete the content.
I’ve only done the ethereal one so far, but it was pretty neat. I liked how it wasn’t phased off versions of different zones, but just the actual zones themselves. That was a nice touch.
