Giving up games for Lent

Good luck! Def take advantage of this time!

D-did you just Christian flex on this man?

I always thought the whole not eating meat thing on Friday and eating fish instead to be silly. I suppose it doesn’t help that I really like fish and would prefer seafood over meat pretty much anyday of the week. I actually look forward to lent just because restaurants tend to serve more fish during lent and many churches do fish frys.

I thought he just typo rent
 :joy:

Look dude Jesus died solely for you to be able to play World of Warcraft alright there I said it. As-salāmu Êżalaykum dawgie.

To each their own I guess.

But I still don’t see how a post on the forums was warranted.

Most of the quitting posts are pretty much troll posts trying to stir up crap on the forums. 2020 is pretty much the year of the social media narcissist.

And the guy who posted had zero posts. Like

Good for you, sincerely.

Also, a ton of us are behind even if we keep playing, so I wouldn’t sweat it.

And here you are playing games with my heart :frowning:

Some do though in a less ‘structured’ way than Catholics. It is basically making the choice and taking action to give up a ‘regular luxury’ - for example: a daily coffee or time spent watching TV/playing video games - and use the time/money towards contemplation/meditation/thankfulness of and for Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

In the 1500s, the fishing industry was hurting greatly so Edward VI allowed fish to be consumed during fasting to help bolster the economy and it worked. Now people think it’s a religious thing, but that was the origin of eating fish during Lent.

I am not a religious person in any capacity but I love lent, I wish there were two per year. Because
I love fish tacos, they are everywhere this time of year!

To OP, good luck with your observance, friend. To all the naysayers, why so negative?

I never understood the purpose of Lent tbh. Giving up a “luxury” for a limited time then going right back to it later. Wha?

Something to do with fish not having souls or not “properly registering pain or something” I’ve never understood it myself and have had so many people look at me like i’m a crazy person for considering fish non vegetarian.

I think its neat Catholics get to choose one thing they give up for lent. On Yom Kippur we give up pretty much everything, for one day though, it’s not 40.

can confirm, fish do not have souls

a very weird christian humblebrag

Some religion hooplah were you need to give up x thing for a certain amount of days.
I grew up in a catholic school and environment and have repressed everything since it’s just a bunch of brainwashing and abuse.
