Thank you this is exactly what I am talking about I seriously don’t get why people bring up the stupid notion of the old trees were an a”llusion” that’s not true at all you definitely had optimal meta-picks but there was still Way more ways you could play your class and I would prefer an allusion so to speak if that’s what people want to call it over the current crap that we have now at least give me the Illusion of a bunch of choices. I enjoyed picking “this talent gives 2% more shadow damage” talents. That was fun to me.
Its not fun being just given the 2% shadow damage. I want to pick it and know that its a CHOICE i made regardless if its a bad one or not.
If i wanna run around as a tanking fury warrior or a two handed enhancement shaman let me do it!
What people want in the current wow is more class options. Why cant i play two handed frost running around necro striking people with remorseless winter up.
It might not be “optimal” but if its how i enjoy playing wow let us have those options. I dont care if theres a guy thats doing more dps because hes running the optimal build. THIS IS ABOUT HAVING FUN FOR SOME PEOPLE!
Pre-Cata you could make a build for whatever situation you wanted and customize your character for the playstyle you chose. Cookie Cutter builds only mattered for raiding, and even more only mattered if you were aiming to progress quickly - which not everyone was.
Also not true.
Back then you got the abilities for all of your specs and the talent trees unlocked additional abilities as well as allowed you to specialize and make certain abilities more powerful.
The current talent tree offers much less customization because you’re locked into a spec and are forced to have the abilities they want you to have, forced to specialize how they want, and you’re unable to hybrid spec. Sure you can pick your talents, but it’s shallow compared to before.
Very few “build your own specs” actually worked to any degree of functionality back then. PoM Pyro and then Frostfire mage builds are about the only ones I ever saw do any good.
The rest just scattered spells around or left players without any form of rotation and it only became apparent once addons like Recount hit the scene and let us see how god awful some of those “unique” specs were in regards to the cookie cutter mathed out specs.
People are asking for something that doesn’t function the way they remember. As exciting as a 5/10/15 percent mana cost reduction to Flash of Light was, I would much rather make less frequent choices between 3 talents that actually give me a spell or effect.
Vanilla, and all the talent trees, were dull and 95% of them were useless filler fluff on your way to actual useful talents. Acting like my character was amazingly awesome because I took the brainless +X% damage talent that everyone took(…cookie cutter guide or not) is pretty dumb. I took it on my way to the actual talents I was after.
Our current system isn’t amazing either.
I’d really like something like Diablo 2’s with synergies and where you can sink points into your abilities.
This is what im saying!!! We already no there are optimal and sub optimal built but the fact was people enjoyed playing sub optimal bills and they were happy with that some people want to be meta-and run best in slot everything optimal builds but some people just want to have fun like I said in my earlier post some talents give 2% shadow damage or shadow crit or hit I want to know that I picked that even if it was a bad choice IT WAS MY CHOICE.
You are 100 percent right. It’s all about fun and creativity. You could talent however you want optimal or not and swap around. If they want to fix the talents now they need to give us creativity back. Let us talent however we want.
To give back the old talent trees would require them de-pruning our abilities.
Yes, a lot of the time you got something small, like %5 more damage to X, but that is not much different than the azerite traits gave. We were supposed to like those right? And in the old system you got a lot more of those ticks.
In the old system if were almost always a hybrid of two different trees. Especially after unlocking you 51 point ability. That was cool.
If you like the new talent system, that’s cool. Correct me if I am wrong here but haven’t we gone two expansions without a new talent?
Lets do some war games my friend and ill show you some hard content.
This has NOTHING to do with hard content.
But it has everything to do with having fun and for a lot of people the old town trees were fun and we enjoyed the illusion of choice and being creative.
If you did not enjoy choosing talents then you were able to go look up what was the most optimal build copy and paste and be done with it.
This is perhaps the only thing from Classic I wouldn’t mind seeing. Other than that, hope the AA your life away and take 2 hours to form a group for a 1 hour dungeon never crops up in retail.
Try something hard from the 3 button rotation from the fury warrior? With an occasional dragon roar or whirlwind? You’d get more credit if you at least played arms.
I completely agree with you I love everything about retail except for maybe the PVP gear situation which I wish they would bring back vendors but I really want the old talent trees back.
Maybe the situation is not different now, actually i never was defending the current talent tree. But at least, if you are going to don’t have several choices, at least is good have a summarised version than have a complex talent tree that will lead you to 1-2 choices anyway.
