Never said multiple times. I said paying attention. You only need once. There is much practice to be had.
And there are no new mechanics. All of them are combinations, variations or both from basic mechanics present all over the game.
It would be worth the work.
This is what normal is for and/or the various difficulties. You really don’t need a heck of a lot more than that unless you are the type of person others hate to raid with.
There is nothing wrong with learning a mechanics while doing the encounter. The “soccer” mechanic wasn’t that hard to learn, it is actually a very easy one that you just need to pay attention and not hit the pillars, edge of platform, other players or the crying queen in the middle while you move it to the opposite corner and into the “goal”.
We did it for the first time last weekend and it took us about 5 attempts before the soccer teams understood the mechanics. Then it was just about not being careless and clipping a pillar while moving it around.
I would be interested to know where I can play soccer in game outside of a raid without doing that particular boss. Go on, I eagerly await your answer.
Standard response of someone who doesn’t get affirmation
“Well, you don’t agree with me… which means u can’t read”
Nah, I’ve read the whole thread. op asks a very specific question in his post, gets a unrelated response and no answer to the question, so I asked it again (as I like to play soccer)
Isn’t this what the proving grounds are for? You master general mechanics you’d find in every raid tier. Obviously not soccer, but you learn how to play your class and spec or else you lose.
There used to be a time when the mobs outside the instance were elites and had mechanics that prepared you for the trash and bosses inside the instance. Also trash before the boss used to do the same thing. But those went away big time with patch 2.3 and then erased completely with the Cataclysm overall of zones. Very sparingly after that there have been zones that had elites with mechanics like inside the instance (court of stars outdoor area), but you end up outscaling them at certain points.
Mage tower like training scenarios that just throw you in the deep end would be a great addition to the game. Horrific visions are almost like that but are content for all specs, and as a result not tuned precisely to what are needed.
Where’s the soccer?? I really would like to play soccer in WoW, apart from raiding!
I remember seeing that in the Heart of fear raid, so not that long ago.
Protip: the trash leading up to a boss in Ny often previews one of the core boss mechanics.
For instance: the pair of sphinxes leading to Maut—yeah, that’s why they’re there.
Despite the all the cool edge being thrown at you OP…you’re right. You’re supposed to get a taste of mechanics progressively and for something like the soccer there really isn’t a chance to learn except for doing.
Unfortunately for all the other mechanics they dumb them down so much in the open world and lfr you don’t really learn or (darkshore war zone) they remove the punishment and Zerg through them becomes the mechanic.
In reality…for something like the soccer your raid lead will be like” ok who’s knows the soccer drill”
Finally sometimes you just need to bang your head against the problem until you and your guild figure it out
Thank you Curufinwe and Failadin. I felt like I was talking to myself for a bit there…lol
2012 feels like a lifetime ago. There have been newer raids like Antorus (and now Ny’alotha) that have done the same thing but the trash just gets burst down. Not really cementing in the lessons.
here you go

however the above doesn’t erase the need for this:
progression.
Statement: it’s called LFR ny dude.
Ez, do what your tank/heal tells you to do/not to do
To learn how not to do mechanics?
I dunno.
Training is built in to raiding, they just have a different word for it. It’s called “wiping”.
And, besides, even if you get every mechanic down solid, before you raid, there’s the group component that’s necessary as well. And that can’t be trained.
So, go forth, raid, wipe, learn, rinse, repeat (like that movie!). The training doesn’t get any more realistic than being there.
