Listen here kids:
Why would blizz make an amazing city with multiple districts, interesting lore, perfect harbors, and good surrounding leveling areas if they were just going to let it sit there forever!?
The deepest desire of my heart would be for Gilneas to become a capitol city. Don’t even have to revamp it. Pop some npcs in there, kick out the forsaken, and boom! New alliance capitol city.
Alliance would have Ironforge, Stormwind, Boralus and Gilneas. Horde would have Orgrimar, Thunderbluff (Maybe…), Silvermoon, and Zandalar. The scales would be even! GIVE US GILNEAS!
What you’re asking for has been asked for thousands of times since its introduction in Cata.
Silly doggo another cool city would distract everyone from the glory of stirmwond the only meangful city of the aliiance.
Well… there would be some revamping needed. Have you seen the insides of the buildings? Pretty bland, because you weren’t meant to go inside. Building interiors would need to be revamped to make room for player facilities, flavour NPCs and the like.
Also, Gilneas City itself doesn’t have a port, you’re thinking of Keel Harbor that is actually a bit ways out of the city.
Wait, your telling me people aren’t content with bland, boring Stormwind?! That a Victorian city is far more interesting than a disorganized mess of bleached granite?
How dare you not be grateful for the opportunity to be displaced twice.
It was originally going to be an epic battleground that revolved around capping and holding the districts. So that’s why it’s so big and detailed.
if it makes you feel better, the forsaken are also permanently swindled out of the most important city in the setting.
I agree, though I would wish for a bit of a redesign. It makes sense as an area designed to be a battleground. It makes less sense as an actual city. A redesigned Gilneas City, done in as much detail and thoughtfulness as Boralus or Suramar, would be an absolute dream come true.
I’m all for Gilneas being a capital, but like some of the people above said.
Its going to take quite a while to redesign the entire place. Not to mention hoping it will be in the dev team’s interest.
Not unless you say pretty please and give the undead duskwood.
And Zandalar? Seriously?
If the Worgen get to take back Gilneas then Goblins should retake Kezan.
Make Goblins Great Again.
If you want to live in a blighted hellscape, by all means, be my guest. Just don’t complain when your lungs melt.
You forgot the Exodar. The Horde would need another capitol to even things up (not that I particularly care about having the same number of ghost towns as the Alliance, mind you).
The obvious direct parallel would be Kezan. I’d personally love it if the Echo Isles were scaled up to be grander.
Anyway, I’m totally cool with you taking back Gilneas. It’s not like the Horde is using it.
i would love to see the undermine
Fingers crossed for 9.0 update the old world ans make Gilneas a hub city for Worgen and Night Elves
I’d say the obvious direct parallel would be Bilgewater Harbor, which is already “an amazing city with multiple districts, interesting lore, perfect harbors, and good surrounding leveling areas.” All they would need to do is give it capitol city amenities.
But it’s very close to Orgrimmar, so that’s a problem (they probably wouldn’t develop Bilgewater Harbor unless they destroyed Orgrimmar first).
I considered Bilgewater Harbor, but it’s not the same scale as Gilneas and it’s not a lost city. But I wouldn’t mind at all if it was scaled up.
In my ideal world, both Bilgewater Harbor and Echo Isles would be scaled up and made into proper capitols, proximity to Orgrimmar be damned. The west side of Silvermoon would also be restored.
Gilneas and Gnomeregan would finally be liberated, too.
But I’m not holding my breath.
I’m for Gilneas being a Cap City 100%. Especially if they intend to go the direction of Alliance = EK and Horde = Kalim (except you BC Races, your homes are still in the limbo dimension, apparently).
Any needed revamp of the area to make it more usable as a city could easily be explained by the Night Elves moving in with the Worgen and adding their own personal flavor to the aesthetics.
Seriously… picture it. A dark Victorian-esque city but with Night Elf Druidic overtones and themes mixed in. It would look awesome.
