Will there still be classic only servers once tbc comes out?
OFC there will be. It will be a 1 time xfer though. (If they were smart)
They answered that question before Classic was even released. Why do you folks ignore the history of Classic development?
What was the answer?
That they want Classic to always be there. Which, likely, will mean there will be newly made Classic-only servers that you have to migrate your Classic characters to.
Classic will always be here no matter how many are playing.
nope classic is done thanks for coming shows over boys
Regardless of how we get TBC, we know that there will be both TBC and Vanilla servers. We just don’t know which ones will end up being either or. There’s a few scenarios being tossed around:
- All the Classic servers are copied, and the TBC version of every server is accessed via a separate dropdown in the Launcher. You have a Vanilla and TBC version of the same characters on each type of server.
- All the current Classic servers roll over to TBC, with several new Vanilla servers are opened up to transfer your characters to if you want them to stay at 60. (This one is most likely as the leak mentions Pre-patch)
- All the current Classic servers stay Vanilla, with several new TBC servers are opened up to transfer your characters to if you want them to progress. (this one is less likely as the leak mentions Pre-patch)
- Only some servers become TBC servers while others remain Vanilla. (Probably the worst option as you’re screwing Vanilla purists on the arbitrarily selected progress servers and screwing the TBC hopefuls on the arbitrarily selected museum servers).
The recent leak mentions TBC being announced in February along with having a short beta period, having the Pre-patch beginning in …April, I think? And then the Dark Portal opening in May. If this is true, that means the second option is the most likely one. The first option however seems the most practical though it may create the most dead servers.
Edit: And to be honest we will probably see no mention of it at all until Blizzconline in February.
I know. I heard those words.
Now It seems tbc will be released; insiders with “strong” rumors and a few questionnaires.
When tbc happens will there still remain classic only servers?
Blizzard has said they want Classic to always be there, so probably there will be Classic locked servers opened.
Why would Classic players have to migrate their characters to new servers?
Classic WoW was not supposed to be for recreating the xpac progression all over again. If they do TBC, people that prefer that would much more likely have to migrate to those servers - or start over.
Because it’s easier for Blizzard, as that would allow them to create as few Classic-only servers as needed, and the players who don’t want to progress to TBC are in the minority to by a pretty large margin. It’s better to progress most servers and funnel everyone who doesn’t want to onto a handful at most of servers.
Otherwise, most Classic realms would be dead.
Classic WoW was an experiment, and since it succeeded, TBC was next to be in the works. Blizzard never had a set plan for Classic because it was largely uncharted territory for them.
If Blizzard does not utilize the many servers they already have, they’re going to end up forced to merge most servers due to a lack of population while bottle necking all the players transferring to TBC servers. It would be a huge undertaking and would require far more resources.
And before you say it, I understand Blizzard said that they wanted Classic to always be there. But that doesn’t mean always on the same realms.
How do you know this? Classic was supposed to be classic. It wasn’t about starting the xpac progression all over again.
I’d be the majority are players just tooling around, exploring the world, doing their own thing and do not want to begin expansion progression all over.
So you think they would disrupt Classic players in order to cater to some that want to begin expansion progression all over again?
I don’t.
If they do TBC, you will be the one that has to move. Or they will just have fresh TBC servers. That is my best guess anyway.
Polls. And the fact that fresh servers tend to be more popular than finished servers, as players get bored of being BiS with nothing to progress towards.
And it won’t, since almost certainly they’ll offer permanent Classic servers for them to transfer to. There is a possibility that instead they offer fresh Classic servers, but who knows. I don’t expect Classic-only servers to last too long with a reasonable population if it is already P6.
You have nothing to back this up, while polls show the opposite is true. Especially since numbers are dwindling and many are raid logging.
What polls lol. There are no scientific polls for this. Some streamers poll is worthless as it only captures people so into the game they watch others play it.
You say that like you have proof.
The polls that have been taken with the results shown are more evidence than anything you can provide supporting your assumption that players will be forced to transfer to progress.
There are already a number of servers with little to no population, what do you think is going to happen when TBC hits and people have been in P6 for 6 months?
I agree they will eventually consolidate servers. I think ultimately there will be like 2-4 NA Classic servers as time passes. Split between PVE and PVP. The people there will be those that like the end game of Classic as promised. They will level alts, they will bring those alts into raids, they will PVP at 60 and maybe twink lower levels. Some people will come back to Classic now and again and enjoy the original game. It will always be there for people and the ones that remain or pop back in are not going to care about the phases.
What you are asking is for Blizzard to just restart the expansion progression all over again. Perhaps they will do that, but they are not going to inconvenience Classic players anytime soon for that.
You will be the one to move or start over. And that is IF they do TBC. You are obviously convinced. I suspect they are more likely to add a couple seasonal classic servers and that is it for the next year or two.
If there’s no fresh Classic servers, eventually they’re going to be pretty dead. And while there could always be more people who dabble, they won’t be able to actually get into a raid. People aren’t going to be interested in doing the same raids for who knows how long when there’s no progression left. We’re already seeing many guilds stop doing MC, BWL, and even AQ40 - and that’s not even mentioning AQ20 and Ony. ZG is only done for idol runs because they’re still relevant.
Newer players might not care about phases, but they will care about nobody to play with.
If most of the population would be in favour of a progression server, then that’s the best way to do it. And so far based on polls they are. Blizzard’s own data is unknown to us, but we have no reason to believe it’s any different.
You have literally no evidence for your claims (as usual), and no evidence showing player interest. Logically, as it’s the easiest and least risky thing for Blizzard, progression to TBC will happen.
And yes, TBC will happen. We’re only getting more inklings that it’s already in the works. Classic was dropped pretty out of the blue, and now they have the established method and the known player desire for it.
