i did indeed say that. i do love torturing myself
Stay in Elwynn Forest and kill only boars.
flying around exploring. been doing some of that on my earthen and it is so freakin boring
Leveling through shadowlands.
Get a job at a call center long enough to make enough RL cash to buy a boost.
I would not wish this on my worst enemy, and I hope I never have to endure such a thing again.
While you are playing I’ll routinely come into your room and give you shoulder rubs and whisper in your ear how pleased I am with your progress and compliment you.
Leveling only by killing enemies, however you can only kill a mob type once and then must move onto the next one that gives you experience, across any zone, alphabetically.
Level as a healer - then behold as your tank leaves everyone in the dust and pulls everything along the way .
don’t read quest dialogue and just mindlessly follow dots on a screen
Behind the NPC Inn in The Vale of Eternal Blossoms (have to go to the original time with whatever her name is up by the Lorekeepers), dig out your Anubisath Idol and two carry pets and battle the same 5 skittering wave thingies over and over until you hit 80. Did it with my mage. Leveled several hundred pets and took me almost 3 weeks.
I level 1-2 alts by pet battles each expac and by the time I’m done, I have every wild pokemon in rare quality.
Back in MoP when I got bored, I leveled a Shaman from 1-85 in Stormwind down in the harbor using 3 level 5 cats and one shotting lvl 1 SW rats over and over again. Took me almost 4 months.
Many of these are torturous, true, but without any redeeming factor of being interesting or fun to route. I propose:
You can only turn in quests while your character is swimming. You may kill any mobs you like, but you must lock exp gains for any mob killed while you are not swimming. You may not use Chromie Time.
Find a mining node, and stay there mining it, wait for respawn etc. Other than mining that single node you are not allowed to move.
Fishing. It will take forever
hardcore iron man in warmode
you die, you delete and start over
no ah, you only equip what you loot or make, no ah to sell, only vendors
None of these suggestions even comes close to doing it normally… when your latency is over 9000.
Go to a populous area in your hometown and busk for change until you can buy a boost.
That sounds like a nightmare to me.
Ok. This is the most torturous method I can imagine:
- Make players start in a random location they have never heard of or care about.
- Introduce a ton of new characters so the story is as convoluted as possible.
- Implement a level scaling scheme where monsters get stronger at the same rate as the player (you are always fighting tougher monsters as you level up, even if you stay in the first zone).
- Adjust the scaling so that it is tougher on low level players than on max level players.
- Require players to complete quests without actually giving them gear so that their level goes up faster than their stats.
- Make professions useless for leveling by requiring that players be max level to use any profession gear.
- Make the quests so that you have to fly through areas with max level elite mobs to get to the next quest giver without warning the player of where those elite mobs are.
- Write quest text with vague directions, if any directions at all as to where you are supposed to go or what you are supposed to do when you get there. Make NPCs say “Follow me!” then have them instantly disappear after taking the first two steps in a random direction.
- Complicate the talent system into multiple branching trees that you can easily brick if you pick the wrong talents or spec.
- Require heavy amounts of grinding, but make killing monsters take as long as possible.
- Require players to run dungeons before they can complete the basic story questline.
- Require that players know the boss mechanics of dungeons without actually explaining what the bosses do or how to interact with the mechanics.
That should about cover it.
