I tank main in pugs in the 2-2.5k m+. that means I am topping out in th 6-7 key range.
I am not a 5-pack pull guy, more like 2-3 packs at a time. I am not pushing the limits of endgame content.
I have watched some beta key videos and listened to some of the main tank creators (tactyks, quazii, dorki, yodatv). they seem to be more concerned than panicked.
I am curious how the damage buffs tanks have gotten could offset the expected lower damage dealing of healers. I mean, if tanks need more healing, then healers would be expected to spend less time doing damage.
as someone who runs a healer alt, I would rather heal than do damage. of course, I dps when healing isn’t needed, but I run a healer to heal.
my question is whether or not additional tank damage will be enough to offset lower healer damage. or, is the amount of damage dps is doing going to be even more and the additional damage from tanks is just to generate the threat needed to keep aggro?
I guess we get a couple of weeks to see it in action.
Yeah- not happy atm. Reserving judgement, but my tanking days with this pally may be coming to an end. All this talk of tanks being overly ‘tanky’ in this thread so far most certainly haven’t done high level keys where a mob wipes out 2/3 of a tanks’ health with one whack. DPS is ‘a dime a dozen’. Tanks are not. Blizz better hope the nerfs aren’t so bad that we play our other specs and group play becomes crickets because we stop playing the spec. I won’t be tanking anymore if it is as bad as it looks like it’s going to be- and I have 3- one 528 and two 527s.
i played in 2007 on. I don’t think anyone really wants to go back to marking targets, waiting for the rogue to sap, the mage to sheep, the hunter to trap, 3 sunders from the warrior tank.
it is fun to feel (nearly) immortal as a tank. but I conceptually don’t mind that the game is moving a bit more towards the idea that PVE content is race between the boss’s/mobs’ health bars and the combination of the tank’s health bar and the healer’s mana bar.
there will be a learning curve for everyone.
as a smooth and steady tank, I expect to be okay. maybe…
The poor tanks who always pulled too much and would brag about soloing the mobs while everyone ran back will now have to play the same game as everyone else in the group.
In theory should be good, less damage from healers and more from tanks could actually tip it towards more overall DPS for the group. But this is WoW, we need the healers to be on board also and go back to a priority healing role instead of trying to be a 4th DPS.
Come November and that will also mark 20 years of me playing this game, and back then I didn’t just do dungeons and raids, I also done instanced and world PVP on a PVP server.
That whole meta of SAP, Sheep, Hunter pet off tank garbage can stay in the past, games changed for the better, I doubt many on retail really wants that brought back, if they did, they would go play classic.
No they have been quite open about it over the years trying to get a better balance than we have now. I’m just worried that tanks are not going to slow down and healers won’t stop being a pretend DPS.
Because at the end of the day no matter how much Blizzard communicate on the issue, studies have shown that somewhere around 80% of a games playing base don’t care to read anything about the game, first few weeks, maybe months is going to be terrible for those who don’t play premade with other players who know what changes are coming.
On early Beta at 80 things were good, you could still pull like you used to now, hence the changes. Many tank mains are highly concerned with the changes, we’ve been so self-sufficient, and groups have become highly dependent on the tank just not dying that it’s going to be a big change.
