Get rid of offseason week

I care more about having valor stones removed than this.

They could have allowed for casual S2 gearing. Delves and Dungeons and such. Ive suffered no lag in those instanced areas. only in the overworld.

Things that need/needed to happen:

  1. Aug gutted
  2. Valor stones deleted
  3. Bullions accessible earlier

But they could never have predicted that.

When you make a plan like this, you assume the absolute worst. So… although you’re right, there’s no way to know that a week ago.

The point is: You never know what to ā€œunlockā€, because it might have issues.

You’re trying to make the case for having ā€œthe things that are workingā€ … but Blizzard didn’t know that a week ago.

Just as I’m sure all the lag/bugs/ issues going on in Undermine atm WEREN’T PART OF THE PLAN.

Orrrr Blizz could beta test their own patch before release instead of having us do it for them. we pay them enough.

Sure, in an ideal world, Blizzard could catch every issue in beta testing and launch a perfectly balanced patch without needing an offseason week. But the reality is that no amount of internal testing or PTR can fully replicate the complexity of millions of players engaging with content all at once.

PTR participation is always limited, and the data from it isn’t nearly as robust as live gameplay. Some interactions, exploits, and balance issues simply don’t emerge until thousands of players across all skill levels are pushing the game in ways that a small test environment can’t simulate. Even if Blizzard doubled or tripled their internal testing efforts, it wouldn’t completely eliminate the need for a buffer period to make adjustments.

Also, tuning isn’t just about fixing bugs—it’s about real-time balance. If the season started immediately and an overpowered meta emerged, it would completely define the first few weeks of competition. The offseason week gives Blizzard a chance to react before the competitive grind begins, instead of forcing players to deal with unintended advantages or waiting for mid-season patches to fix them.

At the end of the day, the alternative isn’t a perfectly polished game at launch—it’s either a chaotic first week with major balance problems or constant mid-season nerfs and buffs that disrupt the experience even more. The week-long break is a small price to pay for a smoother season launch.

Pausing progression for a week allows for those who will be participating in the RWF race to complete all necessary content required to unlock access to the next raid tier without giving any of them a distinct advantage. Typically it will also result in normalizing gear and equipment. Effectively it’s a way for Blizzard to reset everyone to the same starting point again.

It also serves encourages players to relax and enjoy the new content. The singleminded focus on progression that many of you have is not healthy.

At the end of the day, the alternative isn’t a perfectly polished game at launch—it’s either a chaotic first week with major balance problems or constant mid-season nerfs and buffs that disrupt the experience even more. The week-long break is a small price to pay for a smoother season launch.

Then fill it with enough content to allow us to have fun. If there’s no fun, then what’s the point? Let us grind for mogs and toys that arent initially a part of the rep grind system instead of locking it behind a timegate. We need to learn to expect more from blizz again. Not pay them to bore us.

We should be allowed to play the game however we like to play it. If you play for progression, and your progress is halted. Even though it was advertised that the patch was released on ā€œthisā€ date. Then it directly interferes with how you like to play. Evidently, there are a lot of people who like this gearing feedback loop. So when its interrupted. It feels awful. Especially when there isn’t enough content to keep you busy more than a couple of hours.

I don’t mind it because it gives me a chance to clear out some things I have procrastinated on.

What I don’t get is if this was going to be an off week, why did they have to clear our currencies yesterday?

Some actual crazy takes here lmao. I have no idea how people can defend this. There is literally no justifiable reason for having this locked week.

You can finish the entire zone in a day or two and then there is literally nothing to do while we wait. Bug fixing is what PTR is for and even then there will be bugs when the season starts, like there always are.

A lot of people are subbed for M+ and raids. Making them wait for no reason at all is just stupid. Blizz could at LEAST open heroic dungeons lol

The 11.1 patch broke a fair number of addons. I think a one-week buffer to get things sorted out is fine.

Yeah you could make the argument that addon issues should be figured out on the PTR prior to the patch release, but that doesn’t take into account the reality of the current addon situation.

One thing to consider is that these addon developers are usually doing this for free in their spare time. It’s common for fixes to be reactive (fixing addons after people complain that they are broken) rather than proactive (testing the addons on the PTR).

The other big issue is that there are a lot of old and aging addons out there. Some addons have even existed since vanilla. In some cases you have addons where hundreds of thousands of people still use them, but they don’t have any active developer anymore because they quit WoW or whatever. When these older addons break, sometimes it can take months for the community to cobble together a solution. Or you migrate to an addon that is less abandoned, which is fine but takes time.

I went through this last patch with Power Auras Classic, which I had used for at least a decade, but finally had to migrate everything over to WeakAuras. This time it was CT_BarMod that stopped working. I spent hours migrating everything over to Bartender, which is better supported and actually works in 11.1, but still don’t have everything quite right yet. I’m appreciating this buffer week greatly.

Pardon my french, but screw the add-ons. game can be played without them.

Reading everything this guy writes, I expected to see the stats of a top player and an impressive history of achievements when checking his profile.

But his results are below average.

I’m confused because I don’t understand what he’s rushing for. He mentions PvP so often, yet he still only has the most basic achievements. The same goes for his PvE accolades.

I agree with the people in this thread who pointed out that he has a rare opportunity this week to earn some achievements while there’s practically no competition.

It’s buggy as anything in Azeroth right now. Let’s iron out the wrinkles before attempting progression.

It’s not. This is the first time they’ve done this.

Historically, they have always reset currencies and such at the start of the next season.

This time, they did it a week before, because the open world is in season 2, but instanced content is still in season 1.

Which is SO STUPID I don’t actually believe they meant to do it.

It has to have been a bug, and they made up a cover story.

Not even Blizzard is dumb enough to actually do this on purpose.
