A better addon for pve would be one that gives you basic stats, such as for a caster: spellpower, crit %, hit %, ect. on demand.
that’s not the point. In classic your reputation, guild and general appearance is what got you groups. Usually a physical appearance in ironforge
That doesnt work either. It doesnt properly weigh things like haste buffs that arent stats, and how differently something like a weapon from Gnomer could be BiS for a large part of the game for Druids at max level.
It doesnt work because theres no universal baseline. At some point you cant break it down into quantifiable ones and zeroes, you will be forced to create custom values. And custom values will vary between addons causing inconsistency, and magnifying errors made considering any addon creator has to have PERFECT understanding of every single classes itemization stack 1-60. And then it will have to include the wild stuff like spellpower rogues with poisons and spellpower pallies.
Its an absolute JOKE honestly because of how Vanilla itemization works. This come stacked on top of the community wholesale rejecting it and ostracizing anyone who tries to make use of it.
Like I said, good luck. Even if you managed to perfectly make one somehow, no one gives a crap and wont use it. And by trying to ask people to do so, you basically stamp a big “Im a Newbie moron” on your head in front of everyone in IF who will all take pleasure in telling you to “Go back to retail”.
You think these forums are bad? Lol… just try it.
Even then, you’d have to know the nuances of a class, like warlocks don’t get any hit talents for their nukes and there’s not a lot of hit gear until later in the content phases. You’d also need to have an idea of how much spell power each tier of gear gives.
It wouldn’t be that hard to even do. Every item has an item level, you’re just adding them up.
We’re talking about random pugs, you aren’t going to know everyone on the server early on, so gear is a good portion of what you’ll base them off of.
It isn’t hard to know a classes nuances, you expect mages to have extra hit, and perhaps the addon would also state if so. Either way I’d still say an addon wouldn’t be the best way to judge someone applying to a pug.
Anyone requesting this kind of add-on for a pug is exactly the type of person I would never want to pug with, so that’s easy.
With raid gear dropping in small amounts, someone’s stats could be skewed enough that it’d look like they’re a tier behind if not more.
So what you’re saying is that they would have less gear than another app? Hypothetically if I had this addon, and I had two mage apps to fill my last spot, and I knew nothing about either, and one of them had 30 more spell power than the other with same crit and hit, then I would clearly take the more geared player. In an ideal world I would know more about each and their ability, but this is a hypothetical in which this addon would be useful.
I cannot wait! I am literally squeaking in excitement.

Itemization in Classic isn’t streamlined enough for gearscore to be an acceptable metric.
TFW an item that you can wear at level 44 (49GS) is BIS…
What I mean is that you could have mages with equivalent stats all around, one that’s experienced more content but had worse luck with drops versus the other who’s never experienced any of the higher content but had better luck with drops and maybe even bought some gear from the AH or crafted it.
You’re not going to have too many friends in this game using an addon like that. We’ll all be too busy clearing raids and pwning noobs than deal with you.
It’s actually very simple to make an addon that looks at your current spec and apply a stat weight value.
complete waste of time. Ilvl means nothing in vanilla.
If I see anyone using this, I will automatically know they are terrible at the game and dont understand how it works.
Actually my guild requires it, you won’t be pwning or clearing anything without correct gear. Most of us BFA players don’t know stat weights for every Classic spec. The addons will help a ton when examining others gear.
And you won’t be wearing the correct gear if you’re going by ilvl…
Glad I won’t be guilding with some noobs that think they need an ilvl addon mod to clear raids, what a joke.
gearscore is a value based on stats not item level. did you even play in TBC or WOTLK?
lol yeah I cleared all of BC and stopped playing after getting my full set from Ulduar 25. Never once used a gearscore or ilvl mod.
Haha, good luck, clearly you’re going to need it.
