Botting, the activity that is supposedly so sophisticated that they have to delay preventative action to avoid tipping off their detection methods is in fact incredibly easy to determine. Just recently, I’ve seen level 14 bots floating 200ft in the air scanning for herbs in the middle of high level zones for months. I’ve seen groups of 3-4 bots run by the same operator running on the same algorithms in multiple zones for over a year. Yes, some do get banned but the bans are not remotely timely enough to make the activity unprofitable.
The only options are:
Blizzard wants the gold buyer/seller/bot subs for a time.
Blizzard thinks the botting/RMT activity, when limited, is healthy for the game somehow.
Blizzard is totally inept.
But as you pointed out, they can enforce the SoD GDKP ban. That only leaves options 1 & 2, which is kind of depressing because it implies Blizzard does not really want to get rid of bots or RMT in Era.
I personally DESPISE /rolling for gear, it’s 100% random and if you do an entire raid and win nothing, you’re now 0% closer to getting gear the next week. At least with GDKP your gold stockpile grows and now you’ve actually accomplished something.
Is it a perfect system? No, because gold buying exists. Is it the best system that exists on classic rn? Yup.
It’s been a while since I’ve been a retail player but I think it’s worth noting here that while there certainly are bots, their impact on me as a player was extremely minimal, if at all. This is solely due to the fact that in retail, bots and I don’t compete for resources but in Era we do.
So bots existing in retail, and subsequently people amplifying bots by being so willing to purchase their resources, doesn’t really bother me as much because it has no impact on how I play the game. I’m completely isolated fro it. This isn’t the case in Era, unfortunately.
Apathy isn’t far off the mark. There’s too much emphasis on GKDP. Blizzard is taking too much heat. Its becoming one of those “stop worrying about what everyone else is doing” things.
You’re playing an MMO with no cash shop pay to win elements - a certain amount of corruption is inevitable. If you can’t deal with it then maybe MMOs are a poor choice of hobby for you. GDKPs doesn’t corrupt players, players corrupt GDKP - stop blaming the joke and start blaming the joker.
Blizz does the absolute bare minimum because why bother? Its not great but its good enough for this crowd. Ill remind everyone that this is as good as it gets with Era so you might as well enjoy it while you can. All you gotta do is mind your own business.
A GDKP is often viewed as a corrupted DKP system. Originally, GDKPs before WoW were considered better because leaders did not take 15-25% organizational cuts, and tanks did not receive a 5% bonus cut. This leaves about 65%-75% of the pot to be divided among the entire 25-person raid, including the raid leader. In the original GDKP system, the gold was split evenly among all raid participants.
