There’s always something of black latex, isn’t there?
Yeah, I’m a big defender of Word of God over Death of the Author, and although I do recognize that the “author” is some cases is actually the company, I always prefer it gets developed by the original creators. I figure you are also more inclined to Word of God?
Shocking discovery! The word commonly translated from Ancient Greek as Pride( Hyperēphania) actually means Contempt/Hatred as does the Latin word Superbia(which has also been mistranslated as Pride!
Shocking how Hatred is the 7th Deadly Sin! Hatred is Low Esteem while Pride is High Esteem(not surprising since the root word for Pride means Bravery which is another word for High Esteem)…
The most likely reason Superbia is constantly mistranslated as Pride is likely due to Pope Gregory I combining Hatred/Superbia with Vanity when he turned the 8 Vices into 7.
That’s not to say Pride is not a Sin. The Ancient Greek word translated as Pride in 2nd Corinthians(Phusiósis) indeed means Pride and is condemned in 2nd Corinthians. Furthermore Obstinance(another word for Pride/Arrogance) is also strongly condemned in the Old Testament!
Pride only switches places with Hatred in the English/French/German/Russian lists of the 7 Deadly Sins. All other lists of the 7 Deadly have Contempt as the 7th and most deadly of Sins.
