November has been referred to by the Norse, Saxons and other Germanic Peoples as well as the Celts/Gauls as the first month of Winter so...
Just be glad the snow didn't show up right on the first day of November!
The reason we think that Winter starts in December is because the Roman Season Hiems starts at that time.
The truth of the matter is that Romans and the North have different Seasons.
Of the Northern Seasons Winter(Wet Season) starts in November, Herbst(Harvest Season) starts in August, Summer(2nd half of the Year) starts in May and Spring(Early Season) starts in February!
Of the Roman Seasons Hiems(Cold Season) starts in the middle of December, Autumn(Dry Season) starts in the middle of September, Aestas(Hot Season) starts in the middle of June and Ver(New Growth Season) starts in the middle of March.
So with those Seasons combined we have the Early Season Spring followed by the New Growth Season Ver followed by the Half Year Season Summer followed by the Hot Season Aestas followed by the Harvest Season Herbst followed by the Dry Season Autumn followed by the Wet Season Winter followed by the Cold Season Hiems!
