While I’ve got ya’ll here, I got a question.
I chose the Enchanting building for the purpose of being able to disenchant stuff without being an Enchanter. my Death Panda is a Miner/Skinner as that makes the most thematic sense to me.
Thinking long term and planning to still use the Garrison down the road for funzies and giggles and to make the best of it as a substitute for proper housing, Does that hold up for later expansions, or can you only disenchant WoD equipment?
I have googled this, and have gotten conflicting answers.
I know they won’t do this, but I’d like to see them add profession mats for all expansions to the crafting huts in the garrison. I’d like to be able to pop over to my garrison whenever, visit the tailor hut, and pick up any vendor mats I need. I believe they still only have MOD (and maybe a few pre-MOD) mats they sell. Also, a direct portal to/from the garrison and the portal hub would be fab. Yeah, we have our garrison hearthstone but to get back to the portal hub, you have to portal over to the PvP area and then pop on over to the SW/Org portal. I’m lazy and don’t want to do all of that. Yes, I know it won’t happen but I can still dream.
Garrisons should have been part of the regular outdoor world for all players to see and updated every expansion pack. Instead, they were instanced solo content that removed players from the outside world and made the world seem empty.
Garrisons could have been player housing, and if done right could have led to small towns and bigger cities if enough players built near each other. That could have led to politics and other fun stuff.
But no… this game can only have the same themepark garabage every expansion.

I still spend time in my garrisons and love them but I think the bigger issue is they never finished the expansion. They pivoted part way through to focus on Legion.
Originally, we were supposed to have different racial buildings available and be able to plop it down in different zones and more. I would love for them to go back and do a WoD expansion with new continents, new playable races, etc.
same.
I nearly always log out in the garrison. Great home base if we’re not getting actual player housing.
Once I get the AH set up, which is very quick to do now, I dont even bother using the AHs anywhere else unless Im already in walking distance of one anyway.

Because what was delivered was far less than what was promised. Before WoD’s release they were hyping Garrisons up to be an important decision we made based not only on the zone we chose, but the area of the zone we set up in would have an impact on how we set them up, labeling it as a “return to Warcraft’s RTS roots”.
IE, pretty much the same problem everything else in Warlord’s of Draenor suffered from. Overhyping and underdelivering, while cutting out all of the meat and only leaving the fat for us to chew on.
Ok? I’m not talking about player housing at all and I want it be implemented.
OP asked why they weren’t popular at the time. I was tossing out reasons why some didn’t like them in WoD.
I love my garrison, but I’m not going to lie and say it wasn’t a little lonely a lot of the time.
