Thank you for replying! Will try this out as well. This is the most in-depth post about this issue that I’ve ever seen thus far. I’ve been having this issue for months. Fun fact, If i launch wow from the wow.exe file, it launches instantly. I’ve always suspected it was a battle.net app issue.
Hey guys! I had a similar issue (and made some posts about it). In my case, I had my WoW folder in the wrong hard drive. You need an SSD. I had it on an external hard drive and it was TANKING my load times and causing all sorts of hilarious load-in problems.
Sorry if this has already been suggested. I just want to help since you guys were so helpful on my end!
Is there a list of problematic addons somewhere or is it literally any addon that is “outdated”?
same for me
I think the problem has something to do with Steam, though I am not entirely sure. I have noticed that after turning off everything that wasn’t a needed system file, WoW would launch fine again but Steam complained. And if I started Steam, then WoW wouldn’t launch again, even if I exited Steam.
This fixed it for me. That’s a shame though, i love me some out of date addons
same problem from long time ago. if i move the files to my ssd, crash my entire system… the writing times of the game are criminal compared to other games. and in a short time our ssd die early.
I’m just gonna say this now. This issue of sometimes having a stupid 5-10 min load didn’t start until sometime after Season 3 of SL ended. I quit the first 2 days into Season 4 and didn’t come back until mid Feb this year.
i don’t think you understand the problem we are complaining about. this isn’t about load times of the game this is about how after pushing the play button on the battlenet launcher it can sometimes take up to 15 minutes or more for the game to even start to load the addons. i don’t use any of the addons you have listed here. i never had this problem during Shadowlands or previously and it only started once Dragonflight became the current expansion.
in my case most of the time the game launches just fine after pushing play on the launcher but other times it can take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes for the game to even show up on my pc. so far 18 minutes is the longest i have waited. yes i have gotten to the point of timing how long it takes…
Same problem here, but on a new Mac, so I know it isn’t anything on my end. Happens on every machine I have wow on. Battle.net is extremely slow when it actually works, it usually disconnects and crashes wow’s network connection every 5-10 mins. When wow actually does launch, I see progress bars as if it didn’t download the full game and it’s looking for resources on the character/realm/login screens. I can see crappy development here, sorry but I have to call it out as a programmer. Blizzard needs to go back to stand alone clients instead of launchers relying on battle.net. No other game requires this many resources. Blizzard is like the Microsoft or GM of game development, and that is not a compliment. Can we get some better client side development please? stop with the loading bars and half downloads and relying on a background service to run before the game is even launched? Maybe you wouldn’t have so many issues with it all being tied together. It takes a good 2 minutes for my game to load, when WOTLK came out my load times were instant. Since Shadowlands its been nothing but lag and constant loading game objects within the world. I feel like I’m playing a web app. I don’t appreciate being put into a 3d world before it’s even loaded. Just not professional. Did I mention this is with ultra settings? When changing them to lower settings it actually gets worse and takes longer to load game objects. I feel like the foundation of wow was a 2 story building, and now a skyscraper of expansions sits on top of it, I don’t think the foundation will hold blizzard.
I am having this issue also, it happens about 80 percent of the time. I don’t run add-ons and when I pull up task manager it only shows battlenet. It’s weird I can’t figure out the pattern. I stopped my virus software but that’s not the issue as it happens even if it’s off. More times than not I can force it through Alienware command center. But I really don’t like running it while gaming.
This is starting to piss me off too.
Not only does it take forever to launch but then when its FINALLY loading it takes ages to actually load into a zone.
I’m on an SSD. This is not acceptable.
I’ve missed D4 event spawns due to this and as far as I’m concerned Blizzard owes me for every one missed.
Yeah, Its not that it takes ages to load into a zone or load a character from the main menu, its that you hit play in battlenet and it just thinks about starting wow for 10 minutes. I mean I can literally restart my computer after hitting play and I dont get that ‘Windows is waiting for something to close, wait or force quit’ thing because… you know… WoW hasnt even started loading yet.
if all of you can. push play and looks what the wow.exe do in the task manager. is like open consuming hdd or ssd and never open but is there.
Same problem here, deleted addons, updated drivers, takes long to load and is choppy once it runs.
I have the same issue my partner was next to me and he’s like why the heck(different word start of with f) are you disabling anti virus -.- he’s like don’t touch that lol so I left it lel
I always feel really uncomfortable when being told in a public forum, and as an answer to a problem with software to disable anti virus, leaving yourself wide open like that to play a game is not a good answer.
I thought I read it here, can’t find it now so it might be another thread. I’ve managed to fix it from my end - log in using the wow.exe from the \retail folder. Takes a couple of seconds to log in if you totally by-pass battle net launcher.
I used to do that all the time, but now it has a “Captcha” that does not work.
It simply doesn’t matter how many times you correctly enter the “captcha” – it does not accept it.
For me this is particularly frustrating because I have an authenticator and have done since 2004.
I’ve reported this problem multiple times and still cannot get ANY response at all. Way to go “tech support”
I just did that and it loaded quicker. My AMD desktop has really bad load issue with wow. Started about two weeks ago, Someone suggested the Nvidia driver update may 30, 2023. may be the cause. My intel laptop also slow but not as bad as desktop. My sub runs out july 2 not sure what I will do. Thanks for the info from everyone.
