Game FPS/Refresh rate

I have the Acer XB272 with upto 240hz refresh rate. I have an intel i7 6900k and two GTX 1080’s but my game when i do control-r it displays maybe upto 100-106fps ±max. I -have gsync on, monitor is set to 240hz i think and my game is on ultra settings. I did put in the config.wtf file “SET gxRefresh 240/1” since my monitor is 240hz and 1ms response.

If you go into the System settings, Advanced, what do you have the Max Foreground FPS and Max Background FPS set at?

/moo :cow:

It’s from 2016 but seems to be the same solution.

foreground was disabled but background was checked so i now have both checked and set to max which is 200.

Try leaving town. When I’m out questing I can get up into the 210s, but Boralus tanks my framerate hard. I imagine DZA is the same. The engine waits for polling data to render nearby players, which results in runaway gfx lag.

From what I understand, a second video card doesn’t double your graphics performance. More than anything, it just gives you more video memory. If you’re getting 100 FPS with all the settings maxed out, you’re in good shape.

Also, make sure your desktop refresh rate is set to 240hz.

It doesn’t necessarily DOUBLE it but it’s not just memory. How it does it is different depending on game but each card is generally responsible for half the pixels on the screen.

but as far as I know, they broke SLI with 8.0 and the changes to no exclusive full screen, so you may actually only be using one Video card OP, and IDK if there’s anything you can actually do about it.

Doesn’t SLI not work with DX12?

If you use direct x11, sli should activate normally. Dx12 doesnt use sli, but this isn’t a bug, it should use both graphics cards’ power but not via sli, though I don’t know if the game does this very effectively.

And no, two 1080s in sli won’t perform twice as good as one. But they’ll be better. How much better is fairly game dependent, and wow has been a bit up and down on this front since 8.0. As a rule, you’re better off getting the best gpu money can buy before you get two in sli.

I can’t find anyone confirmed with it working and am finding a lot of posts about it NOT working. But I don’t have SLI so I can’t test it myself.

"SLI does not work in DX12. This is not the only game this happens in. Same thing in Battlefront 2 between DX11 and DX12 mode.

Don’t expect SLI to work in DX12. Nvidia doesn’t support it. It’s up to the game developer to implement DX12’s own multi gpu functionality."

And, once again as far as I know, DX11 requires exclusive full screen for SLI

Ok ill try that tonight. Im still in the beginning stages of the new town with azeroth with the big huge building. It got a little higher after i maxed out the foreground and background fps settings. Like around 110 + or -.

@Pyrofilia - Im using DX12 right now but i can go into WoW settings and tell it to use DX11 tonight and see if there is any difference. And ill go out of town and see what it does when the game isnt so character heavy when in town. like it usually is. Reason i got 2 1080s is because i also do 3d modeling etc on the side so the more the merrier on GPU’s. But with the prices of the new RTX 2080 cards i wont be buying one for a while. Plus trying to save money for the new Ryzen 32core 64 thread cpu for 3d animation. Running the i7 6900k right now.

I definitely had better results once I turned on sync with my monitor, though I’ve only got one GTX 1080 on my machine. And I definitely get about 30% higher framerates when I’m not in a major city or a place with a lot of players in it. Questing, especially in pre-Legion zones (which were a lot less graphically intense) is notably different than standing about in Dazar’alor.

I’ve only tweaked the in-game settings, and used to play on a potato, so I’m the sort who’d be happy with 110+ FPS in the first place. :stuck_out_tongue:

lol yea i know the feeling. Id be happy with anything higher than what i was getting on my old Acer 27" 60hz monitor. I got the Acer Predator XB272 27" 240hz @ $399 on sale instead of $599 with 1ms response time.

i woulda put a link to pc parts picker of my pc but this forum dont allow hyper link’s.

@gormosh - Yea i set nvidia control panel to 240hz for sure. And yea my settings are max as they can get at ultra.
