The game menu/character select is locked to 60Hz when G-SYNC is enabled, despite no enabled FPS limits. The game engine outputs 240+ Hz/FPS when in-game.
Please don’t clamp the render rate as the menu feels awful to use at 60Hz on a high refresh rate monitor. Is there a workaround available that doesn’t include disabling G-SYNC?
No, the menus were finally capped either in SL or BFA, which was LONG overdue. There is absolutely no reason to let them be uncapped. Once in game, any menus from there will obey your fps limits.
You cannot change the menu fps and 60fps is plenty enough for them.
Cool reply. Ignore the fact that it’s awful on higher refresh monitors. There is a reason to have it uncapped or be an option - because it sucks. Just because you have monitor tech from 2004 doesn’t mean it’s acceptable for others.
It was an intentional change. The character select screen is quite intensive and could cause issues with gpus on peoples computers. People idling on the character select menu for lengths of time were having performance problems and such. While it was indeed changed awhile ago, I can’t even imagine the strain the current one would have!
Lots of other games limit charcter select screens and the like, it’s not just WoW.
So a compromise then would be a toggled option, the same as the in-game option. I don’t have any issues with performance in the menu and it being locked to 60Hz with G-SYNC is a terrible experience.
My complaint for Overwatch is the same. It’s a ham-fisted solution for the lowest common denominator.
You can apply your same argument to your operating system as a whole. Everything you do that isn’t a game should be 60Hz? Yuck.
I’d argue it’s good that it’s hard capped in menus. Historically, some games have neglected to have any FPS limit on menus, and burned up GPUs from pushing more frames than they should’ve.
Nine Sols didn’t have a functioning in-game FPS limit in my playthrough, and I was pushing 984 FPS at one point during gameplay, and my GPU was very upset.
FPS is the “oxygen-free virgin copper cable” of the gamer community.
Anyway, if you don’t like how a deliberate design decision was implemented, complaining here won’t help. Post in General Discussion. The developers will see suggestions for feature changes there, whereas Tech Support has no responsibility or ability to pass along anything to the developers.
