Fun tank specs

I got impatient trying to get that one, so I got Seismic Reverberation instead and it’s crazy broken. I don’t like to talk about it, because I’m afraid Blizz will nerf it into the ground. My Warrior is only 221 ilvl and I can pull 15-17k DPS in most big pulls…as Prot.

Have one now. Always feel like I am constantly waiting on rage. Like on my druid and Demon Hunter and DK I am basically spamming attacks.

Maybe Warrior is just not my cup of tea? :woman_shrugging:

Which tank has the best sound effects from their abilities?

bear roars feels good

Prot Warrior definitely has less filler if you’re playing the meta build. I guess if your metric is purely APM then yeah they’re not the choice. I love em because button presses feel high-impact and you have so much control. You also just fly around like a madman - I can barely stomach playing wheelchair classes after playing Prot Warrior.

Esp with the LEAPER leggy lol

M+ or raiding? Pugs, friends, or guild?

My Warrior is a Worgen and Night Fae so double charge, intervene, heroic leap, flicker, dark flight.

honestly for me , war lack pop off moment , it lack huge cd offensive .

It get boring really fast , maybe i’m burned out of the spec but after 8.3 Prot , it feels bad .

druid incarn
Dh meta
Monk nizuao
Pala wings

War lack something , execute is not as cool as a big cd

Brewmaster. This is the way.

Esp if a Void elf. You can spam heal yourself in the middle of a massive mob to make things easier on your healer due to their racial

No. No void elves allowed!

Between the ones I’ve played – pally, war, dk, dh, and monk - I found war and monk the most fun in terms of the joy I get from pressing individual buttons. DH is super fast and almost invulnerable with pretty high damage.

Most reliably though, I prefer DK, but I’m biased because I just like DKs lol. There’s something satisfying about pretty much not dying and being able to legit solo bosses in clutch situations for a few moments while Brezes go out (while being the one DOING the rez too!)

Monks can get smacked really hard and not immediately die.

That’s unfair, UFR Incarn is pretty much the most superior button of any ability in this entire expansion. The entire Guardian Druid spec is basically that one button IMO, at least as far as keys.

That said, I do agree that Warrior doesn’t pop off as hard. The tier set in 9.2 is definitely looking to improve that situation though, with Avatar getting 10% more damage, 10% DR, instantly giving you an Ignore Pain, as well as making your next shield slam do triple damage. Obviously that’s still no Incarn, but Avatar is able to be used way more often because of Anger Management which gets better as your secondaries improve (Warrior scales better than most other tanks with Haste, and we’ll be getting Haste from the Encrypted affix during boss fights).

The problem I have with tanks is never the tank itself. It’s the quest to find a tank that has a great offspec, because lets face it, you’re going to be using the offspec all the time.

Bear:

  • Solid tank.
  • Pretty quick, between 1min roar, 2min dash, charge, soulshape, cat form, travel form.
  • Easily the most boring tank in the game. You can go through an entire dungeon pressing only thrash and be not much worse than someone actually good at Bear.
  • Convoke is one of the best abilities ever made, but it’s borrowed power.
  • Balance and Feral are a blast to play.
  • Druids move through the world with much more ease and convenience than any other class.

DH:

  • Solid tank. But a little less solid, because sometimes you have to run to live, but you’re good at running.
  • Double jump is endlessly entertaining.
  • Zoom-zoom.
  • Sadly, their DPS spec plays exactly like their tank spec. Most of the abilities are basically the same, which can make the class feel very boring.
  • Kinda emo.

DK:

  • Solid tank. Except for the first 5 seconds of a pull if you don’t pop a CD. But you have like 100 different CD’s so thats fine.
  • Healing mini-game is lots of fun.
  • Slow. But better mob control than any other tank!
  • Really bad at damage, which sometimes matters.
  • Frost and Unholy offspecs are very different from Blood, and they’re a blast to play!
  • Kinda heavy metal. Best transmog of any tank, probably.

Paladin:

  • Solid tank. Except when they have an o-sh-t moment more than once every 8 minutes.
  • Probably the most damage. Which sometimes matters.
  • Builder spender mini-game is lots of fun.
  • Double interrupts. Which always matters.
  • The sound your shield makes. Promote whoever did that sound.
  • Slow. Except when you can randomly mount indoors and leave everyone in the dust.
  • Can do a better job of supporting the party than any other tank.
  • While the DPS spec is fun in the open world and different enough from the tank spec, it’s also completely unwanted for any type of pve content.

Monk:

  • The one the healers love most, because they can’t really get spiked.
  • Fastest tank? Fastest class period, besides maybe WW or Feral? They’re fast. Very, very fast.
  • Really cool lore.
  • Fantastic rotation, great damage, easy mob pickup, easy kiting.
  • DPS spec, much like DH, is nearly identical to the tank spec, with most of the abilities overlapping. If you want to feel differentiated going between the two, this could disappoint.

Warrior:

  • Can’t read or write.
  • Was good at sports in high school and still brags about it.
  • All his transmog says “I’m definitely the dumbest guy in the group.”
  • While they do have leap, charge and intercept, the latter 2 require targets, making them technically ground-speed slower than DK’s and paladins, which, is hilarious.
  • The best overall at physical damage mitigation, which is arguably the most important mitigation. A warrior that’s afk is the equivalent of a Bear with 1 stack of ironfur.
  • Avatar is cool.
  • The DPS specs are substantially different than the protection spec.
  • But, you’re still an illiterate, knuckle dragging dope carrying around a club and a car door shouting every other ability because of what your teammate’s suppose is some kind of hearing loss or learning disability.

News to me. I think I’ve played like 5 hours of an off spec on my bear this whole expansion. Maybe slightly longer if I count being afk in Korthia while in said offspec. I only recently learned how to play Arms and Fury for the purposes of Mage Tower for instance. Same with Ret and Holy on my Prot Pally.

You can level as tank through dungeons, do Torghast as tank, raid and M+ as tank.

That said, some people only play 1 char, and in that case you may want to play multiple specs.

Vengeance DH’s can heal as well as Blood DK’s, just saying.

If you’re just learning to tank, I’d probably point you in the direction of bear druids first.

Very straightfoward and easy to pick up and a newer bear is far, far less of a headache for healers than a new DH, DK or Monk player can be. Their toolkit is also super well-rounded and is great for teaching you the fundamentals of tanking.

All Tanks are really good at the moment, and I can’t say there’s really any clear losers going into 9.2 with the new set bonuses (though Warriors look very fun and Paladins look nutterbutters if their 4p doesn’t get nerfed)

I kinda forgot about DH to be honest. XD I never liked them so never made one
