Hey fellow mages. So I have the quest that awards the conquest weapon which is vers/mastery. I’m pretty sure frost prioritises haste so, is there anyway to change the quest reward? If not, is it better to use the conq weapon over the haste/vers honour weap? Also, would it be ideal to buy the haste weap and use that over the mastery weap later on down the track? Any help would be appreciated!
You can just use reward weapon till you accumulate Conquest to buy the one you prefer. You might also in such case consider to craft it instead of buying it with 10 639 ilvl reagents (that would be same Conquest cost, just need to find a crafter and buy reagents / pay crafting price) - that would allow you to add Darkmoon Sigil: Ascension / Symbiosis embellishment which is commonly used by PVP players.
so we can’t put those sigil’s in on the free weapon we get from quest? those seem kind of important to have which makes this free weapon feel pointless
Yes, embellishments are usable only on crafted gear in general.
This weapon can still be useful as temporary item while you buy other Conquest pieces and then replace it with bought or crafted weapon.
would you say most players will take this route of leaving the crafted weapon 'till last?
There are different routes.
If you want Haste weapon - you could keep 9 free 639 ilvl reagents you get from quest, get the weapon quest done, then buy one more reagent for 175 Conquest and craft Versa / Haste weapon with according embellishment.
As alternative - you could use 2 Elemental Lens embellishments (they are applied to armor, not weapons) and use the free weapon as long as you like, since Mastery for Frost is almost as beneficial as Haste. If you go that route - apply these embelishments to socket compatible items (they do not function without gems) and get these items socketed asap.
ugh, there is so much I don’t know and the game doesn’t seem to tell me about.
Thanks for taking the time to respond, appreciate it.
You are welcome!
Small hint - you would not have full Conquest set till around week 10 anyway, so keeping the free weapon and spending Conquest and free 639 ilvl reagents from quest on other items might be the most optimal way. After all - later you can just buy / craft another weapon and switch embellishments, but such approach would allow you to get the most power boost right away.
Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. So to be clear, the crafted weapon has the advantage over the quest (and also conquest bought weapons) that embellishments can be placed on it. There’s a weekly quest to get the mats. Can you tell me which quests? I think I may have done them so far but, I’m completely unsure.
I’ve googled a lot and I just cannot find any relevant info on gearing for pvp. It used to be so straight forward
You and me both. I know there’s always crafted beginner pvp sets but, I had no idea you could craft conquest weapons let alone the crafted weapons are embellishment only
Oh Lordy I hope it’s not expensive to get someone to make
When you participate in instanced PVP you get quest Calling the Gladiators. You just speak to NPC and he gives you 9 crafting reagents for 639 ilvl PVP gear. For crafting PVP staff you need 10 and can buy 10th for 175 Conquest from Conquest vendor. Then if you decide to craft a weapon you find the crafter, go to crafting orders NPC (near auction house), select PVP weapon (Algari Competitor’s Staff), provide reagents including embellishment (most crafters usually ask for that, but some can provide their own reagents if you have an agreement) and send it to them as private order (can do as public order too if you can’t find a specific crafter, then anyone can fulfill it but no guarantee on result PVE ilvl of the gear, but it does not matter much anyway). Some crafters also ask for work tip, can be specified by crafter or however much you want. After providing reagents and tip you send order and wait for some time and when it is done you get your crafted item via mail.
Doesnt matter the crafted weapon is better
Awesome, thank you so much for this. I truly had no idea this was a thing. I’m not sure I’ve seen that quest. I’ve done a heap of random battlegrounds every week so maybe it’s an arena quest? I hope not. Regardless, I’ll have a look when I log in today.
Thanks again, I really appreciate your help!
