Water Elemental is once again competing against Lonely Winter and as we know, Lonely Winter will always win in a competitive PvE scenario. Water Elemental is interesting, in a lot of RPG settings, Mages are able to conjure up elementals to aid them in battle, hell, Elder Scrolls really popularized that idea, of course, Shamans also being able to do that aside, we have our water elemental… that ends up being a dead option most of the times, especially in PvE.
So how about turning Water Elemental into a CD, similar to Shaman’s so we can make at least a little more use of it?

water elemental should have a talent tree section to itself leading into a capstone that is really impactful. i think it should be the go-to for aoe.
the capstone should allow us to have a giant water elemental that does really powerful effects for like 10-20 seconds.
as it is, so many of the returning talents are boring garbage rng procs and % increases. i like Ice Nine but that’s the only new and unique thing that is cool.

I agree, though I would love to use them in ST as well, all-rounder options tend to be dead picks in the meta, unfortunately.
But yeah, personally I like the idea of them being part of the mage’s class fantasy, but not as pets, we are not supposed to be cruel like Warlocks by having them be our eternal slaves, nor do we befriend them like Hunter pets, keeping them just as a summon to help us wreck stuff up for a bit that we can’t keep up for too long because we have to empower the bracelets that compel them to serve us makes sense, after that’s done they are released.
Add freeze somewhere in the tree for PvPers and just add the 25% damage as baseline or rebalance Frost’s damage.
Water elemental should be the thing that gives us “deathborne”, as in the frost ele casts scattering frost bolts WHILE WE GET TO PLAY OUR F%&@ING CLASS, and builds up power then ends in a ray of frost that if channeled fully, gives a brain freeze recharge proc. But that’s never going to happen
