Frost Mage Defensives

Blizzard - what are you doing?

I understand giving Arcane a second charge of shield, but to remove it from frost is an ASTRONOMICAL L.

Frost mage is the highest deaths across all deaths in mythic this season. Taking away a second charge of our already poor defensive kit is only going to make it worse. So much worse.

4% extra avoidance? Ok, cool. Do you understand what’s killing us in raid? Have you done a single spec of research, before coming to this decision?

I’ve played frost through thick and thin, and this has me re-evaluating my life choices.

Seriously, what are you thinking?

They’re probably thinking that what is not making people play Arcane mages are the defensives  (well, that too but is not the big issue).

IDK why Frost had to lose their 2nd charge. And Fire, ofc found dead in a ditch. Maybe they think that having Cauterize is too good?

Blizz decided that Frost had its time and now its Arcane’s turn but didn’t want to put that much work into it so they’ll just rotate 2nd barrier charge to whichever spec they want you to play that season

I’m willing to give the dev who listed the changes the benefit of the doubt that the extra barrier charge will also be present for Improved Ice Barrier and Improved Fire Barrier given where the position in the dev notes are being the Class Tree and not the Spec Tree.

Seeing as that specific talent node’s name changes depending on your spec and this is probably an oversite in writing down the notes.

I read it as all mages will have two charges of barrier, if that’s not the case, it’s probably unintentional, and they’ll fix it

It isn’t, I just checked the PTR. Fire has 1, Frost now has 1, Arcane has 2

Ok they’ll probably fix that

So an understanding of statistics would tell you that since most mage players are playing frost spec, it will in turn have higher death rate statistics than arcane and fire. That’s simple numbers rather than a comment on the actual defensiveness of each mage spec.

The notes are clear. The talent being changed is the Arcane Mage version, which will now grant all of its current effects plus a second charge of its spec-specific shield.

The class tree already changes depending on your specialization, and each spec has its own shield with its own name. This adjustment is specifically tied to the Arcane version of that talent, not to Frost or Fire.

Buddy YOU don’t understand statistics. It’s one of the highest % death rate across mythic, not just highest total number. It’s the highest death rate among the top 25% of players. The death rate accounts for differences in class population. It may not tell the whole story when it comes to defensive capabilities, but if you don’t think frost mage dying at the highest RATE of any spec is statistically significant, maybe don’t insult other people on their understanding of statistics.

I was highlighting that arcane and fire are much worse off babes. Keep playing your FOTM.

Fire is not remotely close to worse off. Maybe you’ve forgotten about the cheat death, but fire’s death rate isn’t anywhere near that of frost or arcane. The idea that fire is worse defensively is laughable. Arcane sure, but that’s simply not what you said. If you were trying to highlight that they were worse, maybe you should’ve said so instead of being rude and objectively wrong in what you did actually say. Words mean things. And yet again, you’ve managed to be rude and wrong as I’ve been playing frost for years. You’re on fire here, what other braindead takes do you have?

If the intention was to criticize someone else’s rudeness, this comment ended up doing exactly the same thing.

Frost mage makes up one of most highly played specs in the entire game. One of the top FOTM representation. Yet you’re whining when they are shuffling defensives on the spec around a bit. Just laughable when the other 2 specs have been in shambles all expansion.

What is this cope holy. No mage spec deserves to have any defensives shuffled around. It’s that simple. Why do mage players try to kill each other if they play a slightly diff spec and that spec is slightly worse off in this specific scenario.

Goodness me.

Frost was obviously way better off than arcane and fire. I’ll be interested to see how this shifts the meta.

Oh my, your reading comprehension and critical thinking is in the gutter. Frost’s population is completely irrelevant to the state of its defensives. The current proposed changes take one of the squishiest specs in the game right now and make it squishier. The fact that a lot of people play the class, does not mean it is in a good spot defensively. Fire’s issue is not its defensive capabilities. People don’t play it currently because its damage is weaker and less flexible and frost is strong and brain dead simple. The fact that you keep trying to lump fire in with arcane’s defensive issues, while suggesting frost doesn’t have defensive issues simply because more people are playing it than fire or arcane, is an absurd take.

Why should I show them respect, when they’ve shown none to anyone else?

Well they are buffing fire mage damage as well and arcane is getting some big changes. Here’s to hoping we see a less uneven mage spec representation.

That I can agree on. Arcane was a mess across the board, fire’s issues largely stemmed from damage and being relatively boring, while frost benefitted from fairly solid damage and a fantastic profile for the current raid. I certainly don’t expect it to be so lopsided next season, hopefully the fire buffs + arcane changes actually go in the right direction
