Frost Mage Changes WIN overall BUT there are issues

The funny thing is that I pitched this freezing concept in BFA to make frost more dynamic. I can’t believe it actually happened but there are a few misses.

The freezing interaction is great but it has some big RNG issues.

  1. In order to produce comparable multi-target cleave numbers a mage needs to apply freezing stacks to 2 targets, and then “hope” the ice lances shatter both of the high stack targets in a group of 5+. This needs to change either by removing that requirement and creating a penalty to applying stacks to both.

The bigger issue with trying to manage stacks on 2 targets is that IF you get RnG to sync up and you’re crushing it, and a needed interrupt takes place you have to switch targets. AND even if you switch immediately back – the shatter RnG can change and the target you applied the 2nd set of stacks can be ignored by the RnG and you lose those stacks. This is a pretty awkward situation. FIX – I feel like freezing should just be the highest target, extra stacks should not apply to other targets. This removes the RnG, sadly simplifies the rotation in M+ only but since the extra freezing is RnG it could be argued that what we are doing to top the meters is luck vs. skill anyways hahaha.

  1. The biggest part that is missing is the animation. My whole pitch in BFA was to actually make frost animations more robust. How it should work today – the target with the freezing should have ice shards on him, like something that was in the freezer too long, and then those shards fly outwards to the other targets when you shatter = HUGE visual win.

  2. Cone of cold should do something more interesting. I never liked playing a melee mage in m+ but still an iconic spell that is a tad lacking atm.

  3. Mirror image should be a lower CD – 1.5 mins – mostly due to threat management.

Cone of cold is only good for freeze with npc’s.

Maybe, if you are lucky in pvp, an enemy will follow a mage as they back up, at which point coc will teach them to NEVER do that again.

Coc needs to have the damage increase like say, always does 75% of targets health, no matter what. Or, it needs a true freeze with no chance of it being removed, and lasting 30 seconds. Or, it needs to add a debuff, so HORRIBLE, like crit increase by 100%, and/or crit damage increased by 200%.

Other wise, it’s just a gimmic.
