I am trying to make my Frost DK a “bis” Item list from Dungeons. Just something to work for. From what I have read, the stat priority is Master -> Crit -> Haste.
So, as a little test. I used Raidbots to sim my current gear vs Potential gear with the right “secondaries” with the same enchants, corruptions, and gems on it. Basically a 1 to 1 comparison of all being the same, just the secondaries being different.
Attempt #1
I compared what I was wearing to Mastery/Crit gear. The sim says that I would be losing 2.5k DPS if I swapped. Which confused me seeing how everywhere said these two were the top stats.
Attempt #2
I compared to Mastery/Haste gear. That was only a loss of 397 dps. Still a loss though.
I am seeing now soft or hard caps of stats. Maybe there is a sweet spot with Haste and Crit half/half?
What I am wearing now is just random pieces I got from chests. Nothing specific. Anyone have any idea why the top secondaries for my class results in LESS Damage then just a random build?

Well Crit is actually one of the worst stats for Frost DK since most of your big hits get auto-crit effects.
Haste is probably a bit more valueable than Mastery, but should be fairly even followed by Vers.
If it makes you feel better though. Fury Warrior has the same issue with stat weights as it’s Haste/Mastery unless you have Cold Steel, Hot Blood Azerite trait and then crit value shoots up to top priority.
So, what Stat priority would you recommend? Mastery/Vers (Do they even have those)?
I am just trying to give myself a goal.
I’d shoot for Haste/Mastery/Vers as a general rule. Though certain traits (like for warrior) can throw that askew so keep that in mind.
I’ll agree mostly with Utsuho’s comments – we get a lot of auto-crit, and haste is important.
Haste: More haste = more attacks. More white attacks means more Killing Machine procs, which means more crit Oblits (and Frost Scythes if you’ve spec’d that).
Mastery: Buffs our frost damage. It’s slightly more important if you favor AoE moves (especially frost scythe), but as a noticeably large amount of our damage is frost, it’s good.
Crit: Icy Veins thinks this is important. Ask Mr. Robot not so much. It’s nice for non-forced hits, but I’d like to think “get this if it isn’t gonna cost you haste or mastery”…
Versatility: ahahahahahaha no. If you’re seeing something is giving up versatility for any other stat, there’s a reason behind that, and that it’s a meh secondary.
What I’m seeing, mostly from the ease of poking at AskMrRobot, is that Mastery, Crit, and Haste are all about equal in importantce for single target fights/building, mastery eclipsing both noticeably in multi target (presumably entire packs of trash mobs at once with different mobs dying at different times), and at best Vers being about half as important as the other stats.
Couple points here. Icy-veins’ info is not up to date. Also don’t be too quick to write off vers. There are specs that do prioritize it.
Depending on traits and talents, vers and crit are about the same value with vers edging out crit in most cases at least for Frost DK. The only real downside to vers is it can be hard to stack. So on the subject of crit/vers in your case OP, just get what you can on that front.
Part of the issue is between single target bis stats and aoe bis stats. For breath of sindragosa crit and haste are big since you get longer stronger breath uptime for single target. For breath build mastery becomes top tier for aoe since most of your aoe attacks are frost damage. Also your sims are set to dungeon testing or somesuch so your getting aoe values there, I assume the reason why your getting a mismatch of gear is because your sim is set to be for some general purpose bis that does strong single target and aoe(also probably why its bis set up has 100 corruption worth of twilight dev on you).
Also crit is bis if you run icecap, its worth trying out if you have a good azerite set and alot of crit.
Oof, yeah…corruption effects throw everything out of whack. Also sims assume a patchwerk fight, and outside of the literal Patchwerk fight waaaaaaaay back in Wrath, that doesn’t exist.
So word to the wise on that front, take sims as a ballpark figure.
For a quick answer:
Get mastery to or over 50%
Get Frost whelp indignation x3
Stack haste after that for pve
Stack vers after that for pvp.
I roll Crit = Haste for my gear setup. The faster and more critical hits you can get the faster and higher uptime you can maintain Icycap. My strength is sustained at 25k+. For people to say that crit is a wasted stat, is severely mistaken. Pun intended.

You need to stack the shiz out of haste and here is why. You should be running a Twilight Dev 3 corruption then stack Expedition. The reason why is TD scales with haste. Haste for us is really good since we can maintain GCD cap which will allow better uptime on Pillar and way more auto attacks to help proc everything. Also all that haste makes the Icecap build just insane.
The advice in this thread is terrible. Just wow.
Check the guides, check the top m+ key runners. It’s crit and then haste, with a ton of crit % corruption.
The top setups are running like 45% base crit and then trying to get 30-35% haste as well.
With those sort of stats, icecap build and permanent pillar of frost.

I focus crit over all else
Haste is a bit better for single and mastery a bit better for AOE, but crit is still good for both and it scales well with both the Icecap and BoS build.
