Frost Changes for 12.0.5

That was. But frost will brick anyway with the other changes. Fire will continue to be sh*t (thank god, i never liked fire gameplay)

We will have only 1 spec for raid and m+. Arcane and probably wont be top tier like hunters or evoker

Yeah, for the first time ever I am not maining Arcane and decided to play Fire instead because it’s the only one of the 3 mage specs I can stomach after the Midnight reworks. I cleared the raid on Normal today and it was full group so we had quite a few mages. A similarly geared Frost mage blew me out of the water. At ilvl 250+ Fire does ~20% less than Frost and Arcane is about the same or even worse if you’re not playing the Orb build. It’s a huge discrepancy and the devs aren’t even acknowledging it.

Very bleak stuff.

Honestly, at this point I am starting to think I will largely skip this expansion and only play through the story because the endgame has been absolutely ruined for me by the ridiculous changes they made.

Copying this over from my post on the other thread:

I am also very glad to see the reverted changes for Ray of Frost, but the Glacial Spike changes still need to be reverted too! As I stated in an above post, several of Frostfire Frost’s Hero Talents buff or alter Glacial Spike, as do quite a few of the main Frost Talents, so not getting it until 26-30 seconds of combat have passed AND not being able to carry it over to the next combat if you don’t get into another combat for 1 measly minute will still feel horrid.

The ā€œā€œā€œclarityā€ā€ā€ improvement just so someone can find Frostbolt is a complete mistep. It’s as easy as just splitting Frostbolt and Glacial Spike into two different spells, or changing the name in the spell book to ā€œFrostbolt/Glacial Spikeā€.

Yup, that’s what I’ve been saying. Fire is garbage which is why I switched to Frost and I’m constantly at the top of the damage meters.

Hooray! We keep our second charge of RoF.

Like everyone else, I hope they also reconsider the Glacial Spike change as well, either leaving as it is now on live, or splitting it out to a separate button like previous expansions, or a choice node between those two on the talent tree. I could live with any of those options, personally.

I’ve cancelled my sub. This is the first expansion since Legion that I’ve been able to connect with a playstyle and character, which was my frost mage. Call me a boomer but I absolutely love the fact that I get to open with a Glacial Spike that just uses the same keybind as Frostbolt. It’s become second nature and feels like the sort of thing WoW should have been doing for some time (ā€œtransformingā€ some abilities to combat button bloat while also saving the abilities from outright pruning.)

Kill a rando mob that jumps you will be so much slower without a GS to use fight off the bat. Waiting 30 secs for a GS is crazy. We are going to have to wet noodle frostbolt mobs to death now.

I rather they just bake the GS damage into frostbolt so it’s regular decent damage.

Yeah the MM apex talent is wild to me. Imagine being able to completely ignore a secondary stat while still benefiting from it.

This is probably my #1 complaint right now… frostbolt damage is just sooooooooooo bad (considering we spend a good amount of time casting it outside of Ray CDs). Normal mobs out in the world laugh it off, let alone delves, dungeons and raids. Starting off a D11 fight without a punch like GS is going to feel terrible.

As much as I love GS… probably my favorite animated spell in the game that ā€œWeā€ get as players - doing this to it basically kills it. Might as well remove it from the game and bake some more damage into frostbolt. (Or… do the sensible thing and split it back off of frostbolt and let US choose when we want to cast it and let it act exactly as it does today with current icicle regen)

You would do more damage throwing a partially melted snowball at them. The damage is so bad it damages you(r self esteem).

Before, we could generate a Glacial Spike roughly every few seconds (the war within). Now, we will launch our Glacial Spike every 30 seconds, or 25 seconds, when talented.

Please, for the love of frosty, change hailstones to generate icicles based on spell interactions, not timer based. You could change it so brain freeze generates an icicle, allowing us to shave some time. Or better yet, revert to the war within.

What’s also crappy, is that our frost fire empowerments are going to suffer, as well as all the Glacial Spike modifiers. For a spell we now only cast every half minute, with no power compensation, is really terrible.

ā€œMages are doing a great job killing enemies, let’s fix that, let’s make more changes to get them killed.ā€ - Blizzard. Thanks Blizzard for making changes to get us mages killed (sarcasm)

Stop the Glacial spike nerf!!! We need glacial spike as it is now to do open world content and delves!!!

They need to revert Glacial recharge change, so mages can do open world content and delves, without feeling weak, or having to use ROF to get rid of minor enemies in a timely fashion.

I agree, I enjoy watching the icicles merge together and then giant giggity slap go out.

Yes, GS will be cooked if this goes through. As it stands now doing 12s+, there is generally not enough time to get GS to recharge between pulls. If you’re crafty you can make it happen… But it definitely slows down in higher keys due to groups that know what they are doing.

This change will brick the ability, at that point. If this garbage change goes through and you don’t separate it from frostbolt so we can cast it when we need it (I have literally had it come up when the last mob of the current pull is at ~5% HP) then that’s just bad game design.

I wish they would just make GS recharge instantly after combat ends so that it is up for the start of every pull. Even if they have to adjust the damage, it’s better than having to track it and play around it. Get rid of the extra freezing stacks so it can still blast. They can keep the 25-30 second cycle in combat. Balances it out for raiding. They would probably have to make it so that invis doesn’t reset it though. I don’t want to be a rogue.

Edit: for emphasis, being reliable and hard hitting is what makes GS fun. It doesn’t need anything else.

Yuck these changes are disgusting. Just nerf our damage by a % if it’s too high, don’t make the spec play different…

Lol, damage too high? Not really (there’s other M specs out there that absolutely trounced Frost Mage in DPS), and it was bursty. It was perfectly fine until this garbage nerf job. Squishies need to be able to open with a decent burst at least, even if it wasn’t maintainable continuously.

Good job Blizz, take a fun, decently viable character and mash it into the ground.
