Frost and light?

Does frost magic mix with light magic to create something similar to Shadowfrost? I don’t think I’ve seen an instance of it ingame, is it possible in Lore?

Considering we have various examples of multiple magic types mixing, including Fel and Arcane, I imagine it would be possible regardless of the source of the frost. But yeah, there’s no example of it anywhere. As long the sources aren’t known to clash, though, combining should be feasible.

If they can mix frost with shadow magic, I don’t see a reason why it can’t be mixed with the light. It’s plausible lorewise. Although, I can see the logic behind shadowfrost (the emptiness of the void and the absent of light will “cause” cold) lightfrost seems a little… weird. Because the light is more closely related to life.

Well, to be fair, Blizzard has yet to fully explain the nature of light and shadow in the Warcraft universe. All we know is that both are forces that can be utilized in a manner similar to Arcane, frost, fire, and fel. However, the problem with light and shadow is that both of them seems to be “sentient” and or connected to strong sentient beings (i.e. the Naaru, old gods, etc.), unlike the aforementioned four “types” of magic.

Whilst a mage have full control over ice, fire, and arcane… and warlock forces demons and the power of fel to bow down to his/her whims… priests, paladins, and warriors that utilize either shadow or light would need to somehow coax these forces to work in their favor, much like shamans with the elements and druids with the nature.

So mixing any sort of magical discipline with either light or shadow, might be a very tricky thing to do due to their “free will”. At least, that’s my assumption on why hybrid magic is rare in Warcraft.

The game actually has support for a multi-school damage type that combines holy damage and frost damage called “Holyfrost,” although it has never been used by any spell to my knowledge. Take that as you will.

From a more lore-based perspective, Light is often portrayed as being strongly affiliated with order (even though Arcane occupies that position on the cosmology chart). Taken to the extreme, order becomes stasis, which is where it could potentially be tied into frost magic.

Additionally, we see what extreme levels of Light might look like in the audiodrama A Thousand Years of War:

[Alleria] saw darkened worlds burning in holy fire. She saw millions of creatures encased in luminous crystals the size of mountains, sustained by the Light and unable to die. Warriors of the Light were monsters, corrupting and consuming everything they touched.

Light corruption is shown as freezing you in place for all time, alive but unable to move. Granted, this may not be actually true, as the context in which this quote appears is the Void giving Alleria a vision, and the Void is a notorious liar.

Now, now, that is not true. The Void doesn’t lie, it is just not bound to a single truth like the light is. The Void as described by Locus walker is that it tells all possible truths. The Void sees beyond the lies the Light tells you and opens you up to the real truth. All things are possible through the Void.

As long as you’re not looking for good dental, that is- the Void’s idea of clean teeth is just erasing their existence, and I for one, want to keep my winning smile.

Who is telling such lies?

Personal experience- I was lucky it was a molar!

Discipline priests combine light and void energy together from time to time when firing bolts of penance.

Considering light and void are supposed to be antithetical yet discipline priests seem to be able to fuse them just fine, I think this opens the door for any other combinations of energies in WoW lore to be technically feasible.
