Fresh level 120, how to get to Visions of N'zoth?

Hi everyone. This is my first time playing BFA and I just got my demon hunter to 120. I’m still finishing up the main quest of Drustvar, but after I finish it, where should I go next? Obviously I want to do the whole war campaign, but I’m not 100% sure how to get to visions of n’zoth, as that’s why I decided to buy BFA. I’ve been searching around and can’t seem to find any definitive info on what exactly I should do in what order to get to 8.3. I know I need to do the opening to nazjatar, but I don’t know if I need any specific gear or need to do any specific questlines or activites first, and what I need to do after the nazjatar questline to get to visions. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

To get to 8.3 content is a relatively easy process these days. What you’re going to have to do is:

  1. Unlock world quests, which grants access to Nazjatar.
  2. Play through Nazjatar up until the point that essences are unlocked. (though I’d suggest completing the nazjatar storyline for the full zone unlock to get access to world quests there too)
  3. The next time you’re in Boralus, the quest to start on the legendary cloak quest line will pop up on screen, which by playing through will grant you access to the newest content.

Keep in mind that just because the path is pretty easy, Nazjatar and the 8.3 questline will vastly outgear you. So it would be prudent to work to get some gear along the way.

The following articles contain more details on how to unlock world quests, progress through nazjatar, as well as the new 8.3 content. Best of luck!

Thank you so much for the info! I’ll definitely look into these guides a bunch. You mentioned gearing up before the Nazjatar questline. How much do you think I should gear up and what would be a good way to do it? Then after I unlock nazjatar world quests how much should I gear up before I tackle the 8.3 questline? Also what would be a good way to gear up? Just doing world quests in nazjatar/mechagon? Thanks!

World quest gear scales to your current item level so its best to get gear from other stuff first if you can (but dont let world quests expire!) The gear item level rewards on the map change instantly when you get a higher item level. You’ll be doing them in all BFA zones not just Nazjatar and mechagon.

There is usually cheap gear on the AH. 400 trinkets and 310 rings were cheap last time I checked. Greens. If you buy a piece of gear you will not only be boosting that slot, but also every world quest reward on the map. There will be three days worth of world quests when you ding 120.

Mechagon questline gives you an early 405 trinket, Nazjatar early 370 weapon. See if you can get those before doing the world quests. I’m not sure what normal and heroic dungeons give now. I would not attempt a horrific vision until your 400+. Try to start 8.3 and get the cloak ASAP if your strong enough. Cloak will dramatically boost your item level.

Burning Crusade timewalking is currently active, so the timewalking Vendor in Shattrath is currently up. The vendor has some leather gear as well as an Agi trinket and a fist weapon that will probably be good stepping stone gear and help get your ilvl up for better world quest rewards. (I think at level 120 they are ilvl 350.) If you don’t have any timewarped badges (if you were around for the anniversary event, you might already have a bunch) your first timewalking dungeon will give you a quest item to turn in for 500 badges, which is more than enough for some gear. (Trinkets and weapons are 50 badges, and regular armor is 25.)

Actually, I discovered that from a guildie! And you’re right it worked like a charm. Been running BC dungeons for a while now and all the drops were ilvl 425, and the vendor stuff was like 415. So now my item level is 407, which I assume is plenty to do the questlines I need to do to get to 8.3. Thanks a lot everyone!
