Isn’t that what happened last week? Players going to whichever server?
Layering exploits + transfers to a server that started a week late is quite a bit too much for me, likely going to drop out until they get classic off the ground and hopefully put new servers without transfers out. Rolled on Netherwind to escape queue times on Incendarius, now I’m going to be around 9 days behind as opposed to being relatively established on multiple characters.
The forums doesn’t update very well. I’m currently 45 and have enjoyed having a permanent sprint (mount) for 5 levels.
For real man, this is almost as bad as the layering exploit.
I suggest that you use the convertible time zone time that you were so good at including before. Now it’s very hard to have to manually convert to time zones based on what you typed. You guys seems to have a good way to make the time you state change depending on the forum reader, please keep using that
Servers take resource, time and money. Not commiting to more than necessary was a smart move.
Not in 2019, friend. The main developers have repeatedly mentioned how easy it is to open up new servers. The technology has grown exponentially since 2004. Its an easy YT search to confirm what they said.
The bigger issue is retraction down the line. I think they are scrambling for a code solution to layer hopping?
Have they said anything about the layer hopping solution or is that just an assumption? Not judging you harshly if you’re just assuming, but if you have a source I’d love to see that
XD maybe they gotta get on to empty their mail boxes hahaha
the one that wants none of hte servers to be dead ghost towns in a few months. Plus this is extremely minor in the long term life of the server.
I would rather we balance out the population across servers we have and open minimal new servers. No ones going to want to move to a brand new server if there is a good chance its going to be dead af.
They finally open up free xfers for people on realms with high ques and you still hear nothing but complaining. Ridiculous.
Just wanted to say thanks to the devs. Our guild was on herod, we were a private server guild. We’ve had up to over 100 guildies online at one time with another 50+ just waiting in Q everyday. Alot of guildies, including officers and even guild/raid leaders were legit talking about quitting classic because of the Queues.
Almost all of us have xferred to Earthfury and we’re all now able to actually play the game together.
I do want to throw this suggestion out to the devs - since you increased player cap, you might want to reduce it again to show people what the actual Qs will be when you remove layering in phase 2. This may motivate more players and guilds to take the free xfer.
Warning to other people who want to wait and see what happens - I doubt Earthfury will be dead, but if you miss out on the free xfer now, you may still be dealing with 5-10k+ Qs on herod or skeram when they reduce the amount of people allowed to login and remove layering like they said they would in phase 2.
To each their own though, and I am more than happy that we could xfer to a server with no Q.
No transfers should be allowed until after the layering exploit is dealt with. Even after the exploit is fixed, servers released after the initial launch like Netherwind are still on the grind to 60, and have an undeveloped economy. Zero purples and very few blues on the AH in Netherwind, and over a page of epics are on the AH in Incendarius.
I don’t see how the layering exploit or the economy will hurt people being able to move from an over populated server to an underpopulated server.
A gamebreaking exploit seeing frequent usage should probably be fixed before making major changes to server structure, I’d say. It’d be best to fix the issue before spreading it to more servers.
While I agree with you it needs to be fixed, whether they do it before or after won’t affect the server in the long run.
You’re likely right, but it likely shouldn’t be put off. This needs to be dealt with, as soon as possible. The longer it is left, the harder the economy is going to be hit.
Our guild was on herod, we were a private server guild.
Would be nice if you would change to the classic profile.
I’m on Herod and when I logged in just now, there’s no option for me to xfer on the character select screen or anywhere else. Are the transfers over already?

Click on the little “shop” item on the left. It will lead you to the char transfer.
I hope we will never see that icon again -_- its a bit scarry.

Transfers to even out population are a good thing. However, you should ensure that you’re not clobbering that other server with an influx of higher-level people who might have exploited game mechanics to get to that level and have the amount of gold, trade goods, and gear that they are bringing with them.
Simply rolling back characters who transfer would be a good thing. Give them some reasonable upper bound which is in-line with the rest of the server. Also limit the type and amount of gold and materials they can bring over so they don’t trash the economy.
Will it be perfect? No, there will still be disruption but at least you can curb it a bit and have a compromise that helps the most people with the least damage.
